    Police crackdown on illegal e-bikes

I don't doubt you know a million times more than me about pedelecs, but on EU law, there are plenty of reasons why the UK stances are very vulnerable to challenge :) The Cassis de Dijon rule which mandates that goods held safe in one member state must be accepted by all, requires that we accept...

    How to avoid Roadrage...

Any recommendations for cameras? I'm a bit nervous after what happened to Michael Schumacher (the doctors blame his gopro).

    Police crackdown on illegal e-bikes

Flecc, do you have a link to minutes of that meeting, please? There are good EU law reasons why that stance might not withstand a court challenge. Thanks.

    Where/what battery to buy

I've been looking at the 48v 11.6Ah battery from eclipse for myself, £285 and it comes with a 1 year warranty as long as you follow the usage guidelines.

One step away from buying - Oxydrive CST HT 13Ah or Woosh

a couple of things, I know v little (just bought a kit which hasn't arrived yet), but 1) that bike weighs about 13kg apparently, that's pretty good. 2) oxydrive do a bafang cst 250w with an 11ah battery, which - you'll want to check if this is true - may be essentially the same motor (the...

    Where/what battery to buy

Just as we're on the subject of batteries, I'm a bit confused between getting a 15ah 36v and a 13ah 36v which is a LOT cheaper (both have samsung or panasonic cells). This for a Bafang CST 250w kit at 201rpm (allegedly) on a 700c 13kg mtb. Am I going to get serious couloumb (drainage/battery...

    Switched from SWXB to Q100H

Interesting. I think you'd need the exact legal instruments in front of you to decide what the wording could reasonably support. After all, if it says "250-350" what it means is not "this motor only runs between 250 and 350 watts", surely it means "this motor has a nominal maximum of 250 or 350...

    Switched from SWXB to Q100H

Thanks. I would add to the distinction you drew between the UK EPAC and EN15194 requirements, that a number of EU law doctrines fundamentally prohibit the UK enforcing the 200w requirement (instead of the forthcoming 250w) - which I'll spare everyone the full detail of (unless anyone's really...

    Switched from SWXB to Q100H

Nice - I would love a setup like that. Everyone is selling 350w but are they legal? Can they even be made legal? I'm forking out a fortune at the moment for the privilege of buying a 350w which apparently has merely had "250w" painted on it at the factory, i.e. the Bafang CST 36v250w, double...

Question re what conversion kit will allow slow-pedalling/give knees a rest

Thanks. From what everyone's been saying I'm pretty decided on the Bafang CST 250w in kit form (partly as it seems to be a 350w in disguise). It doesn't come with an LCD meter though, and it looks like buying one means buying a new controller. I've emailed elifebike to ask but wanted to...

Question re what conversion kit will allow slow-pedalling/give knees a rest

Thanks. From what you say, the 18a crank drive model sounds like the most flexible among those I'm reading about - allows gentle input as you say, has thumb throttle, and allows for controlled exercise for those times when I'm feeling well, too. I read that Custom Ebikes can reprogram the 250w...

Question re what conversion kit will allow slow-pedalling/give knees a rest

Thanks Dave. I'm warming to the idea of the Woosh BPM. Do you know is there a minimum "cadence" which one must pedal to make it work, please? It would be nice to be able to use it when legs are only feeling like doing 20 or 30 rpm. The Woosh BPM says it's a "code 13" which I read means...

Question re what conversion kit will allow slow-pedalling/give knees a rest

Yes, thanks for replying, I think you're right it does come with the option of throttle only, I just don't like the idea of spending all that money on something which isn't as well suited as possible - the BBS01 unfortunately seeming to act as either a moped on one hand, or on the other hand...

Question re what conversion kit will allow slow-pedalling/give knees a rest

Hi, I need a bit of advice on which kit to buy, and hope you all don't mind me borrowing your knowledge, please. I thought I would go ahead and buy the BBS01 from Woosh but have discovered you have to pedal a lot with it. This is a problem for me frequently, I suffer from a difficult to treat...

    Falco e-motors kickstarter project

You just don't want to innovate, lead, and embrace technological revolution! You people are the enemies of progress! Just because you have closed minds shouldn't make you try to deprive the consumers of the future of Falco's plutonium-decay-powered silent 100 mile weightless electric bike kit...

Cheapo eBay conversion kit -whether will support replacement motor if hilly conditions kill original

I was thinking maybe the thread should be deleted because - I realise after posting the link - I'm inadvertently encouraging ultra-cheapskateness which beyond a certain point is not helpful for the British ebike retail business.

Cheapo eBay conversion kit -whether will support replacement motor if hilly conditions kill original

Thanks. Is it possible that the motor in question is somehow not geared? Oh dear - I've just discovered High Barnet (first geographical point between myself and day job) is the highest point between London and York :-( #hills

Cheapo eBay conversion kit -whether will support replacement motor if hilly conditions kill original

Hi all, There's a cheapo kit on eBay I've seen, here, and I was wondering, if the hilly conditions near me in North London/Hertfordshire kill the motor (as I've heard it can), then, will one of the stronger 250w motors from e.g. BMSBattery or elsewhere, work with the kit without modification...

    Plug and play kits

Thanks. Is the 350 always a considerably greater power drain or can you run it at the lower wattage eg by selecting lesser assistance levels ? I guess I'm thinking range.

    Plug and play kits

While we're talking bbs01, can I check with folk if a) say, weak knees mean the '250 -350'w /18 a (rather than 250 w/15 a) version is recommended, and b)whether that then means no cycling on parts of mainland EU due to the ban on greater than 250 watts? Planning my conversion, also non techy...
