Why car drivers DO NOT see cyclists

If this is a snide reference to me, you are very wrong. I cycled through an over 70 year span into my eighties and for most of the 16 years since this forum opened in October 2006. As experienced members know that included doing reviews and tests for manufacturers which were reported in here...

Why car drivers DO NOT see cyclists

As my posts clearly show I have not assumed that, only mentioned it as supporting evidence to what the cyclists were doing wrong in such as nearside overtaking. I'll leave you to your bigotry. .

Why car drivers DO NOT see cyclists

Now you are just being deliberately cussed. I'd already specified in post 35 that I was speaking of driver arrests, and I repeated the mention of driver in an arrest context in the post 37 you replied to. I'll leave you and the other like minded members to your fantasy world where invariably...

Why car drivers DO NOT see cyclists

So because I dont have access to all of that information, you ignore the available evidence that does exist? For example the lack of arrests, believe me the Met Police were quick enough to arrest on the odd occasion where the driver was in the wrong. I wouldn't place too much faith in Coroners...

Why car drivers DO NOT see cyclists

You are very recent in this forum so won't have seen all my many posts in this subject, trying to prevent those needless deaths. All carried the details and links and I'm not going to repeat all that hard work. We only have a small proportion of the national annual deaths, around dozen a year...

Why car drivers DO NOT see cyclists

You do like me, you look up the available data and trustworthy estimates. Your 1 in 1667 deaths that you posted meant that there are under 190,000 cyclists in the country !! We have approaching twice that cycling daily in London alone, so it's clear which is right. .

Why car drivers DO NOT see cyclists

No, you get it right. I was being generous by only quoting the all year round daily cycling commuters. But if you want to quote ALL deaths as a fraction of cyclists, you need to include ALL cyclists. I've now given you that accurate figure, 1 in 59,000. You multiplied the death rate 35 times. .

Why car drivers DO NOT see cyclists

Very true, just as those posting in here blanket blame all drivers, where in fact almost all our drivers are by far the safest in the world. .

Why car drivers DO NOT see cyclists

Untrue. Quote: In 2021, approximately 6.5 million people participated in cycling, either for sport, leisure or travel, in England. The average number of cyclist deaths in England each year has been below 110 a year for many years, with a jump to 141 in 2020 since so many new and...

Why car drivers DO NOT see cyclists

You go much too far with these sweeping allegations Neal, the vast majority of UK drivers are very responsible and in fact they are the safest drivers in the world. I repeat from my post number 4 above: 64 million pedestrians, 40 million drivers, 3 million cyclists, 2 million motorcyclists...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

Not from me. I'd be perfectly happy for all national borders to be removed , letting all go wherever they wish, since the planet belongs to us all. That makes it a self solving problem, the world ending up in economic equilibrium. With the cruel elites left alone in their deserts to enjoy...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

Yes and no. The major failing in modern law, due to it seeking to cover all needs, is how it so often rules against itself. Thus for example the Sex Offences Act 2003 breaches the Human Rights Act in a number of ways, also the Geneva Convention which has force in UK law. In the present...

They are almost entirely illegal economic migrants and we've seen repeated proofs of that. Huge crowds of many thousands have been fleeing Afghanistan. They can't all have been interpreters for our illegal forces there, they clearly just saw an excuse, an opportunity for an imagined economic...

True, but of no use if he is no longer an MP, which is a distinct possibility if Uxbridge throw him out. Few constituency parties would adopt him now that he is so tarnished, especially those with the safe seats that he needs. .

    Brexit, for once some facts.

He's been in Uxbridge's bad books for a long time. Knowing his dishonesty, the Uxbridge party asked him for an absolute guarantee that if they nominated him as their candidate, he would solemnly promise not to write for the newspapers. He gave that solemn promise and became their MP. Three...

Hopefully you are wrong. But if you are right, the public fully deserve him and the appalling mess he will eventually leave behind. We know all about that in London due to his costly eight years as mayor, thanks to the Tory fringe boroughs turn out and the complacent majority Labour voters not...

Nothing like that. If the others are like me, it's simply disbelief that anything will be done since we've heard it all before. Some of the most obvious of our problems and their causes are the ones we never properly act on, because it's not in some peoples interests to act: Climate change...

Agreed. Several EU countries have a standard VAT rate of 23 to 27%, so plenty of room to manouvre there. ic engine fuel duty too, both on environmental grounds and to rebalance the scale of the advantage for electric vehicles. .

    Brexit, for once some facts.

Boris Johnson, concern for the environment? You have to be joking. This is yet again the Johnson self-seeking opportunism. Sunak isn't going to COP27, nor is King Charles, so what an opportunity, in his eyes, to show himself as one of the concerned good guys to refurbish his tarnished...
