    Woosh Santana CDL

Throttles are very handy for standing the bike up to get going - it's the one thing I miss about not having one on my Bosch bikes. I think I'm right in saying the factory Bosch Speed bikes have a start button to do just what I require.

    Brompton E bike 2014?

I think my Nano is quite well thought out. Front hub motor, battery in a front Brommie bag, connected via the mounting block, and a small controller mounted on the headtube, none of which effects the fold. http://www.nanoelectricbikes.co.uk/ The only problem is the extra weight kills the...

Will I be OK with a 51cm Macina Cross frame?

No substitute for sitting on the actual bike because sizes from maker to maker vary a little bit. And don't forget to take wheel and tyre size into account, if that's changing for the new bike. When I returned to regular cycling I tried a couple of bikes in Halfords for size. An 18" suited me...

    Comedy fall

I ride in a group and try to call out 'stopping' if I'm being followed closely. A lot don't bother, which has led to some minor coming togethers. Some people don't understand that from behind you cannot see a bike slowing. It's the same with cars, which is why the 'cash for crash' scams work...

    Bike for long fastish commute

The OP mentioned being able to charge at work. I assume he's grasped the fact he will need to charge both ends so will either have two chargers, or will carry the charger each day. If that's the case any bike with a battery of 10ah or more should be fine. I see the Kalkhoff BS10 is currently...

I was thinking the same, and on 29" wheels.

    Bike for long fastish commute

The assistance cut-off can vary by a mph or two, but I don't think you can rely on that if you want to be certain of meeting your speed target. To achieve 18mph average, you presumably do long stretches above that speed. Pedalling the bike unassisted at speed will be much harder than your road...

First Electric Bike - which one?

Sounds like the right bike for the right application for the right person which is always a happy combination.

Also spot on. I think one of the reasons I specced the hub gears on the Rose was because I remembered the cheap and nasty derailleurs I had on bikes as a teenager. Fast forward many years, the change on my SLX derailleur AVE is worlds apart, silky smooth as Tom describes. Had I known that...

    Comedy fall

Thanks Tom. I fell nicely onto my left shoulder, no outstretched arm so no cracked wrist or collarbone. AVE appear to have adopted the NuVinci hub for most of their latest ebikes. Never tried one, although Croxden couldn't get on with the NuVinci on his Grace.

As you've gathered, I thought it was very similar so I couldn't see the point of the extra cost. But there's no doubt that Rohloff hub is known to be bomb proof, which the Alfine 11 isn't.

    Comedy fall

Pity, because I like hub gears in many respects. I was a bit underwhelmed by Croxden's Rohloff in a what's the point sort of way. I suppose the point is the Rohloff works reliably.

    What do you think ?

Put clipless pedals on and spin it at 90rpm if you want, but what's the point? You will be attempting to propel a 20kg+ upright bike at 20mph+ with no assistance from the motor. To me, riding an ebike like that is like hurtling down the outside lane of the motorway in a Land Rover, although of...

    Comedy fall

I fell off the Rose for the first time today. Not due to my poor bike handling skills, of course, it was the fault of the Alfine hub. I got a box full of neutrals - pedals spinning, bike at slow speed, but no drive. The sensible thing to do would have been to get off the bike. Instead, I...

    KTM Macina Cross problem

The document is Bosch motor only, if you want that it is in the thread Stu linked to above. No good if your bike is a Kalkhoff Impulse or any other crank drive.

A working dongle - at last

The Badass dongle starts to work at about 11mph, so if you are accelerating the Bosch speedo reads 11mph than 4mph - to indicate a true 12mph - and so on. There's no effect to feel, so if you were not watching the speedo you wouldn't know the dongle had cut in, or cut out when you slow down...

    Woosh - more dreadful service

I sympathise with Hatti's unfortunate chain of circumstances. In my game, if something starts off on the wrong foot, it usually only gets worse.

    What do you think ?

The OP will need to learn riding an ebike is different to riding a road bike, not better or worse, just a bit different. High roadie cadence is not appropriate for a bike such as the Sundowner.

undecided, short list growing.... confused more advise please!

Difficult to comment on a climb I've not seen. Of the two bikes, the Secret could well be the better climber, simply because all small wheeled bikes climb - and accelerate - better than large wheeled bikes. But that Secret is not really a day in, day out 24 mile a day commuter. Full size...
