Sounds like hall sensors but they usually put up the `Err 08H` message on the display. Are you getting that at all? Also disconnect the two brake cutoff lines as well, see if any difference.

Re servicing, there`s not much to do really, you could check there`s enough grease on the final metal drives, put some aircraft spec on the cogs. The left crank will loosen off, you really need to stand on the spanner to get it tight enough.
