Javid told the Sunday Telegraph: What shocked me the most is when I was told that the waiting list is going to get a lot worse before it gets better. It’s gone up from 3.5 million to 5.3 million as of today, and I said to the officials, so what do you mean ‘a lot worse’, thinking maybe it...

Well now ... Government officials are examining whether fully vaccinated NHS workers could be allowed to forgo self-isolation in order to curb a healthcare staffing crisis amid a rapid spread of Covid infections. Downing Street said on Friday it was considering whether ending the requirement...

Johnson has already egged on the people who are of concern, who will (probably already are) avoiding taking any precautions. A minor lifting of the accelerator pedal ain't going to make any difference. As for the person who got into his car from Wembley without a mask on then encouraging...

Much is being made of the possibility of changing the parameters of the NHS Covid-19 app. However, I foresee issues in one direction. I don't think England has realised the same app is (unfortunately) also used in Wales. I doubt they can change the settings for one nation but not the other...

The numbers infected are having a significant effect on available staff in the NHS, especially hospitals. That is impacting capacity. Even if the number of hospitalisations doesn't reach the heights it previously did, the impact could be as bad or worse.

Last year, during/after first lockdown, I effectively ran out of coins. (Usually I keep plenty for things like parking and, as you say, tips.) Then it was difficult to re-stock! Shops which accepted cash often simply didn't have sufficient to convert to coins. Banks had long queues which I...

The laser pointer was sufficient, in my opinion. Fill the stadium with a very slight mist and photographs will "see" the line of light going directly between goalkeeper's eye and the pointer.

Hmm, if the batteries still have some power in them, could we attach a blade to the motor and add an auto-cremulator facility?

Populist? No, of course not, but if England win I'll declare a bank holiday... What a ridiculous thing to do. I just wondered if I should dash out and buy some stamps ready to overprint... (No, Royal Mail haven't done a special stamp, so that's a non-starter.)

Was on my mother's and step father's death certificates. And there is much fear among hypothyroid patients that they will get mis-diagnosed with some form of dementia. There is a very questionable "idea" that older people don't need their thyroid hormones at as high a level as younger adults...

I don't think that limestone sequesters carbon dioxide. After all, we heat limestone to make quicklime, then slake it and get a calcium oxide lime (e.g. lime putty or slaked lime or builders' lime) which then can sequester carbon dioxide. But it can only sequester as much carbon dioxide as was...

Seems like all residential roads in Wales will have a 20mph limit within a year. Some of these golf-cart level vehicles might be perfectly adequate at that speed - if that is all you need. Certainly it would be enough to get me to the nearest shops and back.

We have already seen situations in which reservoirs which have been drilled into then splurge into the sea. Gulf of Mexico? Imagine billions of tonnes of carbon dioxide, forced into a reservoir, and a combination of geological and, possibly, engineering issues allowing it to come out again.

One of the major problems with oil-based fires is that burning liquid can flow over a large area carrying fire with it. (Even heavier-than-air gaseous fuels.) Resulting in a serious spread.
