    Bosch bearings

Someone will always buy the Mk1s, it's just not going to be me. There will be plenty of Mk1 buyers camped out on the streets very soon. They will be outside Apple stores and eager to hand over their cash for the Mk1 iWatch.

    Bosch bearings

Perhaps it's because I've never had the chain fall off or got an oil stain on my trousers which makes it difficult for me to comprehend the need for the small sprocket. I didn't realise that this was such a significant problem and how greatly I had underestimated it.

    Bosch bearings

As far as I know, points 2, 3 and 4 could apply to any bicycle and not exclusively to electrically assisted ones, so why don't we see tiny chain wheels implemented more widely? Bikes have evolved over many years, but what we think of as a conventional chain setup has remained. Perhaps this is...

    Bosch bearings

Yamaha have been producing crank motors for a few years now and have a lot of experience to draw on. This latest motor in the next phase in their evolution.

    Bosch bearings

Very true, which leads me to quote something which I have said in the past, never buy a Mk1 anything. Time will tell if the Mk2 Bosch is any better, but I do t like the look of that small front chain sprocket. Why have it? I think that the latest Yamaha motor will be the one to have out of the...

    Bosch bearings

I think there is a message coming through here and that message is, "steer well clear of anything with a Bosch motor." The Panasonic crank motor has the same shortcomings in that it is designed such that the user cannot usually service or repair it, but in the main, the motor gives tens of...

    Strava Electric Bike Club

A great idea. Should it be for 250 Watt (or less) motors only with the nominal 15 mph cut off? So that we are comparing what we generally think of as a legal bike? (I know, I know).

    Liability....

I might be able to help here. I have met some senior officers and can confirm that It's ignorance, and lots of it.

    Liability....

Psssst! Anyone want to buy a 1700 Watt vacuum cleaner? Edit. If you suck the cat up into the dust bag, you're on your own. No responsibility accepted here.

Range problem - what are my options?

My suggestion would be to charge the battery at the University. The battery would also benefit from doing this since you would not be discharging it so deeply. I can't see the University objecting because the cost of the electricity is negligible.

My next project. Wood fired bread/pizza oven

Well done, that's a great looking oven and an asset to your garden. It's nice to see traditional craftsmanship and skills put to use in this way.

    Inkjet printer cartridges

Do as d8veh suggests, sent it for landfill and buy a mono laser. I bought a Brother combined mono laser printer, copier and scanner for £180 two years ago and it's fantastic. It's still on the original toner cartridge and I have a replacement in stock. The diagnostics still show tens of...

For sale Panasonic 26V / 10Ah battery inclusive charger

He's not logged onto the site since April, so don't hold your breath. I have had some dialogue with enthusiast, but takes ages to respond and now hasn't been on this site for months.

    Bosch bearings

Would fitting a dongle cause more wear on the motor over any given distance used? I assume that the dongle causes the motor to continue working beyond the normal cut point, so a motor with a dongle fitted does more work per mile than one without. Is it fair to expect the manufacturer to...

    Bosch bearings

I absolutely agree. We are constantly being told that electric bikes costing several thousands of pounds are so priced because of the excellent backup and warranty service which accompanies them. If the whole process relies on a single shop remaining in business through tough economic times and...

Hi VictoryV, As flecc says, no apology necessary. You quoted your handbook in good faith.

What will be the next major step forward

Hi VictoryV, I think that must be the Amperes that the battery can deliver for a short period of time whilst cranking the engine. Amperes, rather than Ampere-hours. This is sometimes referred to as the cranking current, but 850 to 900 seems astonishingly high, too high in fact. To give you...

What will be the next major step forward

I think what you are talking about is the Holy Grail of a very lightweight compact battery which is capable of storing a large amount of energy. I don't think that we can look forward to it arriving any time soon, so until then we will be constrained by pretty much what we have already. In the...

What will be the next major step forward

Are you sure about that? I can't imagine a 900 Ah starting battery on a car. Could you have misread the label which actually says 90 Ah?

    Replacement Chain

I suppose that makes sense from a commonality of parts and sales viewpoint. But it makes no sense to weaken the components of a system which, by all accounts, is already approaching the limit of its capability.
