26 inch wheels vs 700c wheels

Gearing is more important than wheel size.

    Security, How to do it?

Two or three weeks won't matter, but if you are leaving the battery for a long time, best to leave it somewhere between 50 percent and 80 percent charged. The thing to avoid is to leave it fully charged for a long period.

    Security, How to do it?

In Bosch speak a single charge cycle is empty to full, or equivalent. So fully charging the battery, say, twice from half-full is one charge cycle. Generally, batteries function better when 20 per cent charged or more. I try to keep mine that way, but am not anal about it, I all but flattened...

    Fitness e-bike - please help :)

Daz, You know more about types of fitness/exercise than me, but I think a Bosch motored bike would suit. If you don't pedal, you don't go - there's no throttle. The Bosch software rewards effort, the harder and faster you pedal, the more power comes from the motor. There are several levels...

The owner of my local bike shop tells me Cycle to Work has all but killed his secondhand trade. Pity for him and his customers because plenty of people want a cheap bike with some shop back-up.

Plenty of stuff on push bike forums about Carrera Subways being fairly bomb proof and long lasting. In my view, an ideal donor bike. No point in paying any more.

    Dawes or EBCO

Giant make a few step-through ebikes. You might be lucky and find one in stock at a Giant dealer. If you order one, you would at least have a shop to take it back to. http://www.giant-bicycles.com/en-gb/bikes/model/2014.liv.giant.twist.lite.1.w/15020/66807/

    Newbie from Fife

Either bike will do bike paths and reasonably well made forest tracks. Isn't the Velo about £1,000? I tried one and thought it very ordinary, so can't see the value in it compared to the Woosh. As regards Cycle to Work, very few people do. If your employer offers the scheme and you like the...

    Pedal snapped

I was thinking the pressure from pedalling will act on the pedal in ways that are not obvious or easy to work out. Having said that, the threaded bit at 14/15mm is nice and chunky and reassuring - you just can't see it breaking. Were the threaded bit the same size as the bit that broke, you'd...

    Pedal snapped

The milled bit that snapped is about 8mm in diameter - thinner than a pencil. I'm told all pedals are similar. Doesn't seem a lot of meat on there to resist a sharp downward snapping force.

    Oxygen ebike, crossbar/step-thro, advice please!

Is it the crossbar you can't get your leg over (ooo, er) or the saddle? If it's the latter, a dropper seatpost might be a solution. Mountain bikers use them to get the saddle out of the way when they are bouncing over tree roots and boulders. You could try putting the saddle right down on...

    Pedal snapped

A pedal snapped on the AVE today. There I was, 30 miles into a 40 mile ride, bowling along level ground and the next thing I know my right leg is swinging in the air. It was on the AVE, which has folding pedals, although it's the main spindle that's failed so nothing to do with the folding...

    The complainers program last night

Have to agree with Flecc. Droid provokes bother in more situations than he helps. Offering on-road driving or cycling tuition to others is never going to go down well. I'm surprised Droid hasn't been filled in, perhaps that's because he is a large guy and presumably always has at least half a...

    Motorcyclist knocks a cyclist down

As someone once said, on a bicycle the danger generally comes from what's behind, on a motorbike it generally comes from what's in front.

    Hello from Countesthorpe - Leicestershire

Nice. Were I to lob out another few grand on another ebike, it would probably be a full-susser. Not for stump jumping, just comfort on road and trail. But it would have to take panniers for my flask and sandwiches. That'll be a B@M hybrid then....

Ha-ha, bit of a role reversal there, Trex, you are starting to sound like me. I agree Boardmans are among the best bikes you can get for the money. But if the OP's budget is strictly limited to £800, I think the bike needs to come in at under £300 to allow £500 for the kit.

I was about to suggest something similar. The Carrera Subway is known to be a good, sturdy bike, which is only sometimes let down by poor preparation by Halfords' staff. Buy it in a box and build it yourself, or ask a competent bike shop to do it...

    gaadi tubes

No, although I've only ordered a couple of things since buying the bike. The site always ask what country I'm in, so perhaps it thinks you are somewhere else. The helpline - when they are not 'celebrating a holiday here in Germany' is pretty good. If the person who lifts the phone doesn't...
