Front hub is my favourite if the power ratio is not too strong, my current G370 bafang is the hub I like the most out of the 5 or 6 I have used. Easy enough to pedal unassisted to about 20mph and powerful enough not to induce wheel spin. The hub is powerful enough to tow a 100kg loaded trailer.

The hub make is unknown and doubt it is a Yose spec'd hub, it is likely a rebranded Bafang or a clone of some sort.

Of course the simple easy way to know the PAS ia working correctly is to simply support the bike clear of the ground , power the bike on and in PAS1 rotate the cranks by hand .

I would stick with what you have if the bike/kit are reliable and opt for a better trailer . ecargo's are expensive, then if opting for mid motor drive one only gets a 2 yr warranty after that should it go wrong then the motor will cost 3 or 400 £££'s to be overhauled.

The PAS is an all in one unit so should work. Throttle will over ride the PAS so little point in pedalling except to look like you are riding normally for power.

It doesn't matter what you do, in the eyes of the law 500w is illegal and that is the motors rating no matter what you do to the settings. Simply tweaking and playing with settings makes no difference if the motors rating needs to be prooved.

The missing cells aren't missing . The battery design is versatile and can be configured for 24v, 36v, 48v & 52v so all cell holders would be needed for a 14s 3p battery.

You will hear the motor engaging as they are not dead quite, when PAS engages one knows 100% the motor is working as the pedal action is so much easier.

It will do if the two batteries are identical in fitment and share exactly the same foot print.
