    Alfine Transmission Problems:- Diagnosis Required

James I have just been out and checked that the cable is fully seated in the cup. The cable was a bit tight, and I can understand what you are saying about the effects of it not being seated properly. I've pulled a few millimetres of extra cable through the frame to ensure a nice positive fit...

    Alfine Transmission Problems:- Diagnosis Required

Thanks. I don't relish the prospect of opening up the Alfine hub. The vision of a lap full of cogs and springs enters my mind when I think about it. I'll do a bit of Internet searching to see what's involved.

    Alfine Transmission Problems:- Diagnosis Required

Bike: Kalkhoff Pro Connect 2008 Model, Panasonic motor and Shimano 8 Speed Alfine hub gear, 11000 miles. A couple of months ago, whilst cycling up hill or putting increased pressure on the pedals, they would slip momentarily and this would be accompanied by a metallic crunching sound. Having...

Switzerland gets in first with higher power

The 500 Watt 15 mph class makes a lot of sense and would cater for a wider market if adopted in the UK. I can't think of any valid reason why anyone would oppose it.

Better factor in a new hub gear unit as well then.

    In His Dreams

I didn't think they sell that spec anymore, so it's difficult to say. The nearest that I can find is the 8 speed Agattu, which some would say is a better bike. That is £1695 with an 18Ah battery. Whoever buys the eBay bike could be looking at spending close to this differential on a new battery...

£1200 is a bit optimistic. I don't think it will sell for anything near that amount. I don't blame him for having a go, there are plenty of mugs out there.

Our Gazelle Medeo XTs are here!

Pleased to hear that you are happy with the new bike. I like that style, not exactly the height of fashion, but very comfortable and very practical, which is 90% of what is required from a bike.

Cyclist jumps red light & very severely injures pedestrian - fined only £800

I think that in general terms, everything you say here is correct. However, there seems to be a sort of, "novelty factor" applied to sentencing. If an offence is new, or there isn't much previous history of it happening, the courts tend to be harsh, but as the offence becomes more prevalent...

    Advice on Electric Tralier

The trailer would not be road legal. It also looks pretty dangerous. It's not something I'd like to use. I would have thought for the cost of the trailer, you could buy a reasonable kit to convert your bike.

    EZee Kit Micro-Review

I think it is more in everyones interest to have an enquiring nature which extends to taking responsibility for what they are engaged in. Are you capable of division as well as multiplication?

Thanks for that. It just made me wonder when I saw 600 Watts on the Cycle Analyst.

    Battery price

The price of batteries rose due to the value of the pound falling against the Euro. Unfortunate, but unavoidable I'm afraid. Hang on a minute, that can't be right. The pound is now strong against the Euro and battery prices haven't come down.

    EZee Kit Micro-Review

I understand that. What I don't fully understand is, my kalkhoff Pro Connect is sold as being a 250 Watt fully compliant machine. However, I am told that at times, the motor will output in excess of 400 Watts and some motors, in excess of 600 Watts. All supposedly legal and I am riding around on...

    EZee Kit Micro-Review

I don't want to open the legal / illegal debate again, but I am curious as to what exactly is illegal in terms of power. I imagine that such perimeters as max assist speed and weight are easy to define and measure, thus making it easy to determine if a bike complies with the law. However, I'm...

    EZee Kit Micro-Review

:o I knew you would pick up on that :D It is a nice kit. I can't explain what the Cycle-Analyst thingy was telling me, but on the face of it, the bike had more than 250 Watts and 15 mph assist. Am I correct in thinking that 250 Watts is a nominal continuous figure and a peak power of greater...

    EZee Kit Micro-Review

This micro review is based on about 1 hour of riding and about 17 miles. A friend of mine has recently fitted a front wheel EZee kit to his bike (Giant Escape R8). He had previously owned a Panasonic crank driven Giant Lafree, sold that about 4 years ago, bought the Escape R8 and used that...
