    Best bike for hills?

Just to make sure that the electrics works - use the throttle. If you are pedalling, the motor will cut out about one second after you stop pedalling, the Big Bear is set to cut the power when your speed reaches 15mph to be road legal. As jimod said, you can leave the assist level at 1, or 2...

Electric bikes in the rain query

IIRC, you've bought a Gepida 1000 with Bosch motor? These bikes are well waterproof, little to worry about. Chinese bikes are not so well protected against rain. They usually have a throttle and brake sensors whose electronics can easily be damaged by rain. Mechanical brakes have soft casings...

you'll need something of this size to do the job: http://www.off-grid-europe.com/panasonic-sanyo-240w-pv-panel The solar yield in the UK is not great. The panel alone is about 1.4sqm (160cm x 80cm) and weighs about 15kgs, then you'll also need a mounting kit. It's OK to keep it in a mobile home...

then the BBS01 250W 15A 36V would be good, totally legal. I get about 23 mph with mine. With a 13 AH battery, you'll get about 40-50 miles, with 15AH battery, 50-60 miles.

Big fella - needs a big bike

I've read energise's posts. his LCD got misty, that's probably due to him leaving the bike in the rain. E-bikes' cabling, throttle, brake sensors, pedal sensor, LCD and battery can be damaged if frequently parked outside unprotected. Commuter bikes like his are particularly at risk because you...

Big fella - needs a big bike

I don't know but I don't think the price is going up. Woosh have already fitted 180mm Tektro rotors to their Zephyr-B. The current Big Bear does not have mounting posts for rear hydraulic brakes, otherwise it would have been straightforward hydaulic upgrade.

Big fella - needs a big bike

The current Big Bear has Tektro Novela disc brake and 160mm rotor to the front where most braking is done. The same brakes are fitted to a lot of normal bikes costing £300-£500 like the Specialized Hardrock Disc (£400), Scott Voltage YZ (£500) or the £499 Kona Dewey...

the bikes on your short list are all made in China, the quality of assembly and components is about the same, therefore it comes down to styling, technology and price. I can see you like mountain bike style. If you are heavy or live in a hilly area or like speed, then we can narrow the...

You said you like power, so it's easy to work out. From your list: the Freego Raptor and Momentum Upstart are very different from the rest, they are less strong climbers so should be eliminated first. The Burisch and the Uno are very similar, comfortable commuters, next step up power-wise. The...
