Bosch crank drive whining help, please.

I'm told the ISIS crank/bottom bracket as fitted to Bosch bikes is known to self-loosen. The symptoms of left/right play in the front chainring are obvious to a reasonably aware rider.

Sorry Guys, this new format is not working for Kudos

Aye, Kudos Dave likes things his own way. I hope he sticks around, his posts about the ebike business are informative. My vote is for as few sub-forums as possible. Creating lots of pigeon holes is fine, but only if you have enough pigeons to fill them which we don't as a small forum.

    Possible Haibike purchase.

I agree a Haibike might suit Eddie's use, but is there any need to spend nearly £4K? A (UK supplied) £2.5K Haibike would give most of the brand's perceived quality benefits. Eddie is not far from Haibike dealer Martin of this parish, so I would see what the best he can do is before ordering...

    Interesting bike Ebay Au

In one of the photos the quick release on the front wheel is pointing forwards. Tut-tut.

    Wear and tear

Oh dear, has the motor conked out now as well? Not that I would expect any hub motor to tolerate being submerged in mud or water.

    Disk locks

There are quite a few small cable locks with an alarm. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MINI-LOCK-ALARM-BIKE-CYCLE-SNOWBOARD-SKI-SECURITY-CABLE-WIRE-PADLOCK-SIREN-/250991674157?_trksid=p2054897.l4275

    Wear and tear

I think Eddie is being a bit too understanding. Would, say, a £750 mountain bike given similar use need the same number of bits changing? I doubt it.

    New tyres....twisted !

Some Marathons are folding, but Pluses are not as far as I can gather. I wonder if some idiot has tried to fold them.

Martin, Thanks for that. I thought it might ride quite well. My Brompton is great for carrying in the car, but not so clever on anything other than asphalt. If I had an MH-7, the world would be my lobster. Easy enough to take the bike in the car, and good to ride when I got there.

Should I buy the Volt Pulse?

Careful Dave, there's a few snobs' bikes on your list.

    Bromhopper

I was having a brew with my Brommie dealer and watched as he whipped a rear wheel out in no time. "That's meant to be very difficult," I said. "Easy enough once you've done a few," he replied. Seems to me the supposed rear wheel difficulty is a fuss about nowt.

Should I buy the Volt Pulse?

I've not tried a Volt, but in my experience the climbing ability of most legal ebikes is about the same. Twenty-six miles most days is fairly hard use for any bike, things are bound to wear and break over time. The services of a good dealer will be important, so buying a Volt from a shop is...

    Bromhopper

That is a known problem. Some break when the rider accelerates hard from rest. I think I lack the power to break mine. Anyway, it's now a Nano which will reduce the stress on the drivetrain,

Full price new £2K, available discounted at £1,700. Eddie's is coming up two years old. No doubt it's in good nick, but I can't see it at any more than £1,000. Quite fancy one of these, actually. Anyone had a go on one?

Brilliant inner tube idea for hub drives

Also a Cobra tube in which one end hooks over the other: https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=cobra+tube&client=firefox-a&hs=yi2&rls=org.mozilla:en-GB:official&channel=fflb&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=s8HeUtLAB42ThQez24B4&ved=0CDoQsAQ&biw=1203&bih=524

    Bromhopper

As (most) other owners have said, the Brompton is a good, sturdy bike, let down a little by some of the minor components. There are not many bikes which will stand up to daily use, but lots of Bromptons do, year in, year out. Mine doesn't get that sort of hammer, but has still been faultless...

    Wiggle Southern Rough Ride

I've seen some of the skilled mountain bike lads really throw the bike around and, as you say, all but skim over bumps. They couldn't do that on a heavy ebike. I tried a Woosh Scirocco - which has a throttle - on some wet mud and grass. Good fun, I even had a bit of opposite lock...

    Wiggle Southern Rough Ride

Pleased to hear it. A fair proportion of the other riders will be weekend warriors who would faint at the thought of tackling the rough stuff you do.
