lessons learnt and now even more advice required

WH is a unit of energy, 500Wh gives you about 50-80 miles. NM is a unit of torque, 75NM is above average, you can climb steep hills up to about 20% at your weight. You only get 48V batteries from small producers and kits. Mainstream producers use only 36V. 48V is better for heavy riders but not...

Help! Erratic controller behaviour - is it a programming issue?

The left-sided PAS fits 16mm in diameter axle. Yours probably has 17mm diameter. You can force fit the PAS onto your bb but it will crack in a few months. best buy a Neco bb of the same size. Neco square taper bb has 16mm diameter axle.

    Batteries Charging Routine

not necessarily. We don't know for certain until Stuart tests the battery using his discharge rig like he did last time. The reason for it is we don't know how much fast charging distorts the distribution of the Lithium ion inside the anode. It's this distortion that causes poor performance...

incredible. At that sort of price, there can't be much spent on QC.

They probably mean 4.2v 1a charger

you should get longer discharge time with the diode charging method than 106 minutes last time. I expect 135 minutes - 8 minutes = 127 minutes. 8 minutes = 0.6V for your Si diode.

my guess is the CV current is much less with 41.4V feed compared to 42V feed.

Fitting a whoosh conversion kit to a Thorn Raven

no, I never discourage anyone wanting to fit torque arms. You can search all my posts, I said it's not necessary if you have a steel fork or a motor under 3kgs. The OP has steel fork and a motor under 3kgs so there is no need to worry about adding torque arms. I am neither pro or against torque...

Fitting a whoosh conversion kit to a Thorn Raven

it's because the fork broke on your old bike and you worried the OP. I am not saying that front hub motors don't break forks, but they are rare and happen only when the fork is aluminium AND the motor is heavy. None with motors that weigh under 3kgs were known to break aluminium forks despite...

Fitting a whoosh conversion kit to a Thorn Raven

On steel forks, torque arms are not necessary. On aluminium forks, torque arms reduce the risk of breaking but don't eliminate the risk entirely. The jaws break because of the shock when your front wheel hit something hard. It's not the rotational kinetic inertia (0.5 * m * (ωr)^2) that breaks...

Why is my hydraulic disc brake so noisy?

rear brakes work half as hard as front brakes.

Why is my hydraulic disc brake so noisy?

How many miles have you done so far? It's been good in the last 4 years and you've fixed your pistons, I would leave it as it is.

Fitting a whoosh conversion kit to a Thorn Raven

I would put a cabletie near the fork's jaws to reduce the size of the drip loop and the chance that the motor cable gets tangled up. Congratulations on a well done job and a great bike!

    Woosh Zephyr B 2017

Battery life is about 5 years, so it's due for a new replacement. It's a very capable and comfortable bike for riding trails. You can advertise it for free on our website. Send a few pictures to support@wooshbikes.co.uk I will post it for you

Fitting a whoosh conversion kit to a Thorn Raven

The XF07 weighs only 2.7kgs. Saneagle broke his fork with a BPM weighing 4.5kgs. Your controller is 17A sinewave, his was then square wave, 22A. The situations are not the same. I fit torque arms to the BPM but not XF07. What breaks the forks jaws is the inertia especially when the wheel hits a...

    Batteries Charging Routine

The logic is you follow manufacturer's instructions with guaranteed results while reconcile your wish to lower the storage voltage at lower than maximum. If you skip the constant voltage charging you will damage your battery prematurely for certain.

    Batteries Charging Routine

Don't you think it's a lot simpler to take the bike out for 5 minutes after charging to drop the voltage to 41V or less than modding a certified charger?

    Batteries Charging Routine

Stuart reported his own observations on his battery and his charger. His method is reproducible if you have a 5ah pack. I don't, so i can't reproduce his results. Have you looked at sturmey's post #111? He explained Stuart's results very well. You can see differences even bigger than 24% on...

    Batteries Charging Routine

He did see an immediate drop but only 0.3V-0.6V from 42V to 41.3V and from 41V to 40.4V. Stuart is experienced in electronics, I have no reason to think that he did not measure voltages correctly. He uses a single load resistor to mimic his bike ride, one full battery gives him about 2 hours 15...

    Batteries Charging Routine

He discharged the battery from 41V. It's because the CV phase was skipped, the battery has less charge than we expected. So yes, he did see 41v and his battery has 24% less than if it were charged normally to 41.7V . Sturmey 's graph in post #111 made the point very well. The capacity of the...
