Torque and Rotation (Cadence) Sensing - Clarification Question

In practise with a TS if you are getting tired on a long hill after going at it too fast, then getting into a lower gear and turning the pedals without major effort will get you up it slowly. The motor should assist enough to do that with fairly low input from you. Rather like using a granny on...

    Kalkhoff Tuning Dongle

But they still won’t do it for you because presumably they think it will make them liable. As to the S pedelecs it’s not illegal to sell them only to use them….. Whether they make it clear to their customers that the risk is with them is a moot point.

    Kalkhoff Tuning Dongle

If you contact them and say you bought it second hand and need to update to the Sport software they might. They would need a deposit I imagine. I’m assuming your’s is the Impulse 1 because that update only applies to it not the Impulse 11. If it was bought second hand from the UK it might still...

    Kalkhoff Tuning Dongle

50 Cycles won’t do it but did offer to let a customer I know do it himself when he picked his new bike up a couple of years ago. They’ve sent the device to other customers including members of this forum to update software, and if the OPs bike has not had the 2013 Sport software update they may...

Anyone got a Raleigh Motus ?

I soppose it’s the medium forming the message. Forums like this, or fora if you like, are pretty informal with a very lax attitude to spelling and grammar. So when on auto pilot it’s possible to write all sorts of things without noticing. But I do know how to spell pedant Tom.

    A Swedish commuter

Welcome to the forum. Are pedelecs as common in Sweden as in other parts of the continent?

Anyone got a Raleigh Motus ?

They are fitted with hydraulic disks though not mechanical ones. It’s the mechanical disk brakes which are the pain. Hydraulic disk brakes are practically maintenance free. Just like my Magura hydraulic rim brakes.

Anyone got a Raleigh Motus ?

Didn’t you retro fit them on an older bike? Maybe they didn’t work so well on that? I have them on my Agattu and they are really good. I still prefer hydraulic disk brakes but these are so much better than normal rim breaks.

    3 gears and 7 gears?

3 speed hub gears are typically used on town bikes where it’s flat. Not very good on hills unpowered.

Can electrifying a bike be this easy?

Both CD bikes I’ve owned have minimal motor drag. The Kalkhoff I have now can be pedalled past the cut out on the flat with little more effort than my non powered bike. The extra effort being the weight rather than drag.

    3 gears and 7 gears?

If you can’t get uphill because you are heavy and you live in a hilly area then you will need a powerful bike, and that D cycle might not be. It might be too as I don’t know anything about it.

Will the end of full speed throttles in January 2016 cause a rush to buy.

Which brings us back to TS versus SS with throttle again. A torque sensor electrically assisted bicycle is human powered, and the motor works by multiplying the human input. A speed sensor bike works by just turning the cranks which then acts as a switch and gives full power. Or by operating the...

FOLD bike... is it a bike?

Says it will do speeds of up to 24mph. The range claimed will be b*llocks of course. It can’t be a legal pedelec for all sorts of reasons, power lack of pedals you name it. See threads past on the all but impossibility of registering e bikes as motor vehicles. This would have no chance of being...

FOLD bike... is it a bike?

Don’t think I’d like to do 24mph on a powered roller skate. It can’t be legal in the UK or EU anyway. So it depends where you live, and how strictly they enforce the laws.

    Let's keep the throttle!

Kudocycles. I’m no expert in this but wasn’t it stated here in a post on the subject of S pedelecs that dealers selling potentially illegal bikes are not committing an offence. But using one is? The point being that until it is used in a public place it isn’t illegal. So the customer is the one...

Looking for a really comfortable saddle

You could try eBay. They usually have plenty of well broken in Brooks and other old leather saddles for sale.

    New Bosch Coming!

So since as I always suspected these torque figures are essentially marketing terms and so meaningless. What is the relative power or wattage of the main CD motors? I assume wattage would be the best way to measure power output at these sorts of levels.

    New Bosch Coming!

The maximum wattage is more relevant than a torque figure IMO, and I wanted to know what it was for different motors. What is it for the Impulse 11 I wonder. On those figures the Bosch performance is a lot more powerful than I thought it was.

tuning my bike for more speed

Go back and read the OPs post again. Because he was clearly completely uninformed about the legal situation and said he was puzzled by it. I quote: “ I can tune my car or motorcycle so what is going on with e bikes.” Now he knows the reason and can make an informed choice. Actually there is...
