Probably sick of these by now? Which bike...

Depends on the gearing of the BB and the quality of the parts like the bearings - and the tyres and pressures I would have though. I’ve never ridden one of them but people do ride them around flat central London quite happily. So maybe they aren’t so bad on flat roads. What kind of gearing do...

    Anyone got a Tasman Impulse 8 ?

Yep judging from what he was saying that’s what I told him this morning. A BPM with a SS giving him maximum power all the time without effort.

    Anyone got a Tasman Impulse 8 ?

I think your’s is the Impulse ! isn’t it? The Impulse 11 is quite a bit more powerful but whether it’s as powerful as you need I don’t know. I would imagine the reason the Tasman model won’t be replaced in its current form is because they appear to be changing to a new design from 2016 on and I...

new prices for the new Bosch batteries

…. and people say that Kalkhoff batteries are stupidly expensive.

Pedestrian filmed pushing cyclist off her bike

A small lift of the front of the hand on the bars like we used to do to greet fellow roadies, or someone riding the same make of motorcycle. Don’t think that could be misunderstood. But lifting your hand to shake the numbness out of it - that could certainly be….

Pedestrian filmed pushing cyclist off her bike

It was pretty obvious right from the overtake that it was a p*ss take. Quite funny though. BTW when I’m overtaken like that with a lot of room I always give a little wave of acknowledgment.

Torque and Rotation (Cadence) Sensing - Clarification Question

I can see that at the speed you’re talking about you will be putting in a bit of effort and enjoying a good ride. But not everyone wants to ride an illegal bike at those speeds, and at a normal legal cut out speed - or just a bit above to smooth out the brick wall cut out effect on most SS bikes...

    Badass Chiptuning for Kalkhoff‏

I don’t really want to go faster assisted than I can already. It’s all uphill or downhill here and I can pedal past the 17mph cut off on the few flat bits fine once the big mother is up and rolling. You must know someone with one so in the spirit of knowledge…..

Torque and Rotation (Cadence) Sensing - Clarification Question

Not sure about that. I don't remember you recommending a TS bike once, and you often talk about the supposed stupidity of wanting to put effort into riding an electrically assisted bike. Only yesterday I think it was you wrote that anyone who wanted to do that should just ride an unassisted...

    Badass Chiptuning for Kalkhoff‏

I have no interest in doing it myself but has anyone actually tried the old Bosch trick before the changed things of putting the sensor near the magnet on the crank with an Impulse? Some people say it works but I have no idea.

Torque and Rotation (Cadence) Sensing - Clarification Question

It’s certainly true that the Impulse allows you to turn the pedals with very little effort and if in a low gear still go up steep hills if fairly slowly. Like a granny on a MB. Very useful if you become tired after going at a long hill too fast in a high gear and knackering yourself. I always...

    Help me Obi Wan kenobi....

Spa Cycles of Harrogate do very good Brooks copies that are really just as comfortable and the leather quality is 95% as good. I have both. The only difference is the lack of hand finishing which is slightly misleading anyway. They're under half the price and get very good reviews on bike sites...

Torque and Rotation (Cadence) Sensing - Clarification Question

I don’f have any kind of smart phone. The phones might be clever but the twats walking along the pavement glued to the screens like zombies aren’t. I have a mobile I keep in the car and on the bike for emergencies and I only switch it on to make a phone call once every couple of months or so. I...

Torque and Rotation (Cadence) Sensing - Clarification Question

I disagree with you completely and the analogy with brands is just stupid. I found a SS bike not like cycling at all and a bit like an old pedal moped without the noise. While a TS bike is just like a bicycle, but one that offers me bionic legs. If you just want transport maybe there is no...

    Today's question - weatherproofing

Most of the more premium brands will have better weatherproofing than cheap Chinese bikes. The Kalkhoff with its battery well integrated with the motor is generally regarded as pretty waterproof for commuting in all weathers. Ditto other European bikes. I ride my Kalkhoff in the rain and the...

    Selling my Kalkhoff ....£795

Sounds like a very good price. Is that one of the Impulse 1s they were selling off at a discount last year? How come you’re moving it on so soon? Didn’t you like it? BTW a picture would be a good idea and helps a lot if you want to generate some interest.

Torque and Rotation (Cadence) Sensing - Clarification Question

TS bikes are meant for cyclists who want to ride like cyclists but need or just want some extra power. Typically because either they are getting on a bit, and/or live in hilly areas. Or because they are bike unfit having not ridden for some time. They give the rider a bionic legs effect which is...
