Oh dear- who's been throwing batteries in the bin?!

Aside from the utterly careless, couldn't give a damn brigade, I suspect that lots of kit that contains batteries might well be taken to proper disposal points, but those supposedly responsible fail to handle it properly from there on. I've long been amazed at the number of tyres fires we see...

Getting more confusing: Military and police forces were preparing on Sunday evening to deal with the reported attempted hijacking of a Liberian-registered tanker off the Isle of Wight after stowaways on board were said to have become violent. Coastguard helicopters were hovering around the...

Johnson, and Patel, seem to be intent on rubbing people up the wrong way - to say the least. Assembling this many legal bods in one go is pretty (ha!) impressive. Lawyers call for apology from Johnson and Patel for endangering colleagues Letter signed by more than 800 ex-judges and legal...

Immigration rules quietly changed: The government has quietly reduced the £35,800 minimum salary for migrants to settle in the UK by almost 30%, it has emerged. Migrants on salaries of £20,480 but with enough points under Boris Johnson’s new Australian-style immigration system to qualify for...

I keep finding there are seemingly ludicrous reasons to travel. One that has been a real pain recently is that my phone has a dying battery. The nearest place I can get a replacement done (officially) is Cardiff - two hours drive/ 100 miles each way. By post, it could take 6 to 10 days. Which...

No - I realised. And yes, it would make sense, if it could be made to work. One of the biggest issues is the declared value. If everything were properly and accurately declared, then 20% on top would be just dandy.

In many ways I agree. But the government seems much happier to re-add VAT on PPE than, of their own volition, going after those who manage not to pay on an industrial scale. The court case was paid for by public donations and HMRC were very dischuffed.

For some years, we have been buying some goods from abroad. Not, primarily, because they are less expensive, rather they are they only places to buy them. Paying VAT at standard rate would have been fine. But the customs clearance charges inflate the price for small, low cost items. (Not...

Could be wrong, but I think Uber is more recent. And only due to legal pressure applied to HMRC. Seems 1.5 billion should be arriving in public coffers - and into the future. Still doesn't deal with Amazon.

In my county yesterday (or could be day before - the media are not always clear!) there was one new case of Covid-19. No deaths. The NHS app is now saying the risk level is HIGH. I do appreciate that the whole of Wales is in enhanced lockdown. But this is nonsense. This is one of the lowest...
