OK, I am dishonest now. Very sorry.

I give up. Your mind is set. Zelenskiy is criminal and/or foolish, Putin has all the rights to do what he did, I have faulty memory and we should just accept that situation as a fact. End of discussion.

    Brexit, for once some facts.

Whose memory is defective? Before the war started, there were negotiations between NATO and Russia, not between Ukraine and Russia. The BBC reported extensively on these negotiations and the situation at the border of Ukraine well before the war started. In my previous post, I meant that...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

your memory is no better than mine. quote from wiki: During the second build-up, Russia issued demands to the US and NATO, including a legally binding arrangement preventing Ukraine from ever joining NATO, and the removal of multinational forces stationed in NATO's Eastern European member...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

Zelenskyy offered just as much before the war started, the West was well prepared for confrontation, and did not offer much to Putin from his list of demands. Clearly, regime change is preferable. The war was always about Putin and his dictatorship and could only be stopped by Putin. Putin's...

What I meant was once Putin had deployed that many troops, invasion was inevitable, only the extent could have been mitigated.

I don't think Putin would have accepted anything less than his full list of conditions, including disarmament of the Ukrainian army. Bush did not pull US troops from Saudi Arabia after Sadam complied under similar situation. As it turns out at the moment, Russia will get limited results for its...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

I have never condoned any war, especially those started by US defense contractors. Ukraine however has the right for self defence. It seems to me that you blame zelenskiy for what happened to his country. Had he conceded to most Putin's demands, Putin having amassed 200,000 troops on its border...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

    V. Putin who changed its constitution to make himself its life president, like Kim in North Korea. Now Xi Jinping does the same. These countries have now dictators. What Ukrainians did was to realise what its powerful and unpredictable neighbour can do and sought the protection of NATO and EU...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

NATO won't start a war and Putin should not try to take the sea of Azov by force but by negotiation. There is now a real possibility that Putin will be dead and gone before both sides agree to who will control the sea of Azov.

How can Ukraine threaten Russia ever since it gave up its nuclear weapons and join the nonproliferation treaty? The only possible threat is not military, it's its relatively free society which is absent under Putin.

    Brexit, for once some facts.

Russia is one country with way more nuclear weapons than what is necessary for deterrence. The way forward is mutual reduction of those weapons, not invading another country.

    Brexit, for once some facts.

Putin has always counted on European countries' reluctance to engage into a war with Russia. Had he been more successful in Ukraine, he may expand Russia's military power even more. Ukraine may rid us of him and his politics of strong men for good.

that may be but it will certainly Putin's last war, especially if the Ukrainians can hold on to Mariupol.

Russia "telling its armed forces war must end by 9 May ", according to Sky News. No doubt there, flecc is doing a mind trick on Mr V. Putin.

I wonder what kind of weapon was used to set the Orsk in Berdyansk on fire. Any idea?

the Ukrainians would probably need thousands of Switchblade drones to make an impact. They have been given only 100 though.

there were 35 abstentions. I can't say how many of them support Russia and how many don't. However, I don't think all will support Russia like you implied though. The vote at the UN Security Council is a bit clearer: 11-1 with 3 abstentions (China, India and UAE). I certainly wouldn't bet on...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

both are neutral in the Ukraine war. They won't automatically side with Russia in the next conflict because they have strong interest and ties with the EU. The vote at the UN general assembly (02-MAR) was 141-5, the 5 are Russia, Belarus, Syria, North Korea and Eritrea.

    Brexit, for once some facts.

I thought NATO is cautious simply because it does not want the war to be unnecessarily bigger. NATO countries wants peace dividend and less spending on defense (except the USA because of their important defense industry). I am not convinced that India and China is going to align themselves with...
