    Chunky monkey needs a kit!

if you have never replaced just one broken spoke on a motor wheel before, prepare yourself for a steep learning curve. On one post, a guy cut through his motor cable - presumably he's fed up with pulling it out from the controller each time he needs to remove the motor wheel. Recently, I was...

    Chunky monkey needs a kit!

the spokes are much longer on a non motor wheels, much less stress, much less awkward angles at the flange of the motor, more length to flex, less dishing. Moreover, the shock wave from the motor spindle will have been reduced by the chain and freewheel.

Wisper 905 - what's the Nm torque rating?

for 500W, you can have BBS01 36V 25A or BBS02 48V 18A. The BBS02 runs at higher RPM, more suitable on flat roads - I prefer BBS01 with stronger torque at low speed for offroading.

    Changing Woosh Santana motor.

the cheapest solution is to buy a stronger motor for the rear wheel: a BPM rear motor wheel (about £130) then you would not need to change gear often because the motor has a wider power range. Woosh can supply a drop-in replacement. Installing a hub gear is difficult and expensive: gearbox...

    Changing Woosh Santana motor.

d8veh is of course correct. If I understand correctly, you want a hub gear system, so you want to move the motor wheel to the front.

    Changing Woosh Santana motor.

the motor is pretty much standard Hall-less e-bike motor like most current e-bike motors. You can use anything you like of similar type, just select the Hall-less type, including the BPM motors like the Big Bear motorwheel (about £130). The controller is standard 250W Lishui LSW947, 14A. What do...

    Bikes with throttles?

all the woosh bikes have full power throttle. The ones with LCD are capable of taking you to legal speed limit, take your pick. If you are heavy, the Big Bear or £799 Big Bear LS are very good. http://wooshbikes.co.uk/?bigbear

    In-wheel battery electric bicycles

the pivot point is approximately in the middle, prorata of the weight at the two poles, but the user input required to deflect the bike when turning is much more than if both polar weights are located near the centre of gravity. This effort is proprtional to the sum of (Mass * square of distance...

    In-wheel battery electric bicycles

it's just a bit of technical banter. Shemoz keeps us posted with what's new and I feel it's useful to point out the bad points so everyone can make an informed purchase decision. The CB bikes are sporty and pretty, my guess you are keen on a hub kit. I honestly think crank drives are much better.

    In-wheel battery electric bicycles

the centre of mass of bike and rider needs to be kept close to middle between the two contact points with the road where the road exerts the reaction forces to minimize deflection effort. On e-bikes, the posture is a bit more towards the rear wheel, hence it's logical to put the battery on the...

    In-wheel battery electric bicycles

Not at this moment. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Second_moment_of_area You'd want your bike to have its mass distributed like this: or like this:

    In-wheel battery electric bicycles

this is rather the last resort solution when you can't find a place to put your battery. This system has high 'polar momentum of inertia', or resistance to turning. It's the opposite of crank drive systems with bottle batteries. The latter don't have this problem and feel so much more like...

    Bosch bearings

If you buy a bike without warranties (for example, from some bankruptcy stock), how much discount would you expect or consider the warranties are worth? I reckon 35%-40% of the original purchase price is a fair valuation.

What will be the next major step forward

there is no point for bike shops to get involved with Chinese bikes because of smaller sales proceed, lack of styling and lack of economy of scale. Whereas European made bikes settle for high price, they have medium volume, medium margin and enough margin to pay for quality components and...
