    Brexit, for once some facts.

Hang on a "no deal "brexit would mean hard border , because by definition a no deal means that neither side can trust the other. What is being suggested in this paper is a deal , with certain concessions, probably a special status Irish land area deal on agricultural products , and with some...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

Well OJ thank you for sharing that tome from a committed brekiteer with us. Mr Bannerman the once and perhaps future king of UKIP, currently operating under the flag of convienance of the conservative party. It is one of those great rallying the troops speeches, that are needed to prevent a...

    Fat bikes on beach

I hate it when people get into this petty point scoring.. we have the brexit thread for that. As i see it the advantage if a fat bike is that it is POSSIBLE to ride over sand a task which defeats narrower wheeled bikes. The disadvantage is that the drag and effort is larger than on other...

    Freego battery unrepairable?

Sounds like a good luck story. But as to your original posting. .. while a battery pack is in theory repairable , one has to examine the cost benefits in doing so. .. while finally only 1 or 2 cells have faulted, the remainder will be quite old and worn. To identify the defectives means braking...

Has anyone tried the ultra cheap Argos 700c electric bike?

The battery is small, hence the quick recharge time, rather than 45 miles think in terms of 28 , but that is still ok...

Finally got an ebike for commuting to work...

Don't beat yourself up! Start with full assist e.g. full turbo and as the weeks go by reduce the amount of assistance. It's not a race... If the knees are in poor shape, then be happy to use low gears, at our age we are not trying to prove anything in and try and keep the smile off your face...

    Update on N.I. e-bike regs.

Just two points of clarification.. you don'ts need to go to the mainland , on the vast majority of this island , and indeed almost half the area of the historical province of Ulster it is perfectly legal to ride ebikes. I can see however that there might be a value in arguing the case on...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

.. not being racist, and I like the staff on the Irish ferries boat, but more like polish plumbers . Another time we had to race from roscoff to Cherbourg and back again because of a blockade by French fishermen. .. they had made an agreement to allow the boat to dock for a limited time at...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

It was the first year that the Oscar Wilde ferry was in service by Irish ferries , so I reckon 2007. There was teething trouble and they got the water tanks and the fuel tanks mixed up...... So it was out of service for a week or so... In fairness they organised free travel back via the other...

Push mowers the future for me

My experience of push mowers is that they scoot along the grass making skidmarks and gouging out ruts... Maybe my soil is wetter.

    Brexit, for once some facts.

.. my one experience at pembroke docks was not happy., Probably tried to wipe it from my mind... We had to make a speedy departure from france, due to a failure with the Irish Ferries then new Oscar Wilde , and were forced to drive overnight to Caen, then on a brittany ferries to Portsmouth...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

Tommie, Tommie, Tommie, get real. Nobody in the RoI wants a border checkpoint and associated delays at Carrickaron. I suspect that nobody in NI wants it either. The RoI can wear a customs border at Fishguard and Anglesea, we don't want it but could wear it. NI don't want one at Larne. .. but...

    Gear Hangers

I can imagine that if the hanger were out of alignment, even by a few degrees that the power of say 1300 watts .. cyclist + motor would skew it more. The solution would be a replacement by a stronger more robust and new hanger. Premium gear kit is designed for lightness not strength, and...

    Charging

No.. old thinking . the current battery technology prefers a little and often . Older nickel based batteries had a problem that little and often encouraged the growth of internal crystal spikes which ruptured the cells and made short circuits. Lithium ion prefers to be brought close to full...

Do these luggage bags tend to move around when you ride on rough ground?

Gravel bikes going off thread... a new thread was opened up. Anyway were not all bikes gravel bikes back in the day... ?your old 26 ×13/8 wheels had to handle gravel and muck and leaves and tram tracks as well as tarmac and cement. .. long before bmx or fat bikes were a gleam in the...
