Returning my ebike to Decathlon tonight and here's why

When I was a young and impoverished secondary school student, I purchased a pair of shoes from what was then a new factory by the name of TUF shoes. They were into the utility not luxury market and would have been having contracts with post officers and police forces . They would offer a full...

    Glasses wearers please read.

Don't use a helmet for leisure cycling. Photoreaction prescription glasses . Occasionally bright sunshine and dappled hedges can cause deep shadows so tipping the head to see over the rims works..

Returning my ebike to Decathlon tonight and here's why

I have been reading your description of your woes with an increasing sense of disbelief. I am not one to use labels but the term snowflake comes to mind. Bearing in mind I have sons of your age.... 1. To use an adjustable spanner vise grip etc is an insult to mechanical engineering, they always...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

Quasi Brexit and similar topics. .. the address by Mr Macron to the US houses of Congress is available on YouTube , by ABC news . Incredibly clever , well constructed demolition of narrow nationalism....

    Brexit, for once some facts.

I am not sure that a religious ethos is driving my comments, but could of course have some bearing on my attitudes. It is not possible to live within any society without absorbing some of the memes. It is always difficult to be sure of all the inputs affecting one... Certainly I do not...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

I have attended a case conference, not a stage managed one , so am in a position to disagree, . It involved mental issues not end of physical life, but end of independent life. Your stance is well meaning and I hope well intended but illogical. By simple definition, killing is not promoting...

Any thoughts on Autofolder Airwheels R6

That strikes me as the most practical approach to a folder I have ever seen. The usual arrangements with a front hinge is that it flops about in the open position and makes it difficult to manouvere in the compact form. In this version the frame remains rigid that is a huge positive. I can see...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

The facts of this case aside, I disagree with your stance. There have been cases where parents have patently put their own principles before the welfare of the child, making the intervention of the law essential. . Had I not addressed that by referring to the cases of blood and transplants...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

Now off topic but my attention being drawn to it by that last posting from the express. This relates to the legal treatment of that infant Alfie Evans, and similar hard cases which have appeared in court. It seems perverse to me that law courts be used for this purposes. If the NHS forms a view...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

Tommie and i could have great fun on this as we enter our second childhoods.. One would need to be very careful on the selection of colours and the patterns on the plastics... The flags and emblems act could be working overtime, the kerfuffle about language parity would be just a storm in a...

    Battery Baffler

Silver paper of the type used in chocolate bars, polo mints or in old fashioned cigarette packages or kitchen foil will work but is a dangerous activity... One is replacing a known value fuse with something which won't want to blow. If you don't want to measure or understand what a fuse does...

    Battery Baffler

The battery pack is a pretty complicated . There are probably 40 cells wired in blocks of 10 in series and 3 or 4 groups in parallel. They are normally spot-welded together and then wrapped in tape. Dismantling this pile is feasible but hardworking and reassembly pretty difficult without a...

    Battery Baffler

Look measuring voltage is as difficult as turning the device in, switching it to volt DC and connecting the two probes . The voltage appears on the display. Measuring whether the fuses are ok is as simple as turning it on , switching to resistance scale , connecting the two probes ,accross the...

Better to light a candle than curse the darkness... Get a cheap and cheerful digital multimeter dmm. Electrical problems are just like mechanical problems , just easier but without a meter one is totally blind. You can see as mechanism move or fail to engage, you cannot see current or voltage...

    Battery Baffler

Nothing in the battery tells it so. There is a current measuring circuit in the charger, which causes it's red light to come on when the battery is drawing charging current. But when it's fully charged or disconnected, there is no current.

    Battery Baffler

Any of those very cheap digital multimeters from most hardware suppliers eg B&Q or halfords or Maplin at 8quid up will be perfectly good and will check fuses etc as well. No home should be without one... Usually a blown fuse in a glass bulb is self evident, there will be grey deposit inside...

Back on track and brexit related... Newspapers on Saturday carried pictures of a new car lorry ferry, the largest for Ireland, and capable of 600 lorries very second day to France coming on stream. This will of course bypass Liverpool and Holyhead and go direct to Cherbourg. In addition a...

On the other hand, if you pranged your car so that you damaged the front wing and holed the radiator, you would expect to be able to purchase a new radiator, even for a brand new model. That is the situation those guys are facing. You might be expected to pay for it, but you would be supplied..
