I don't know why I bothered.. Brian Lucey from TCD , Economist did a much better and succinct response line by line....

I know this was not your writing and that it is a report you are quoting so I dont want to haul you up on what is anothers flippant, incorrect crass and utterly ridiculous article. If this is what passes for informed comment in England, then seriously god help us. All references to SF are...

Ethnic? I don't think so. Most of the planters in NI were Scots and they are racially the same. It's almost an accident of birth which religious tribe one was born into. In defence of Tommie it is very very difficult to live in such a divided community and see the others point of view. It is a...

Be careful what you wish for... you may just get it. The backlash from the duped ( pun intended) might be more than you want .

.. Tommie do I note a shrillness in this posting? . It certainly would solve the immediate problems as far as a specific grouping in stormont and Westminster are concerned... But think to the future. I am surprised that you hadn't suggested that the entire RoI population would not make...

I would never gave assumed that the DUP would be supporter of irish unity. But their actions could well precipitate such a poll.

    48v systems

Until there is a court case, all of our speculations are just interpretations. Why was the value of 48v initially arrived at? ... I suspect that the arguement I have presented would have been the genesis for that. The framers of the standard would have hunted around for a reasonable precedent...

. Is that not illegal?. Dont people have a right to be paid in the coinage, unless they explicitly agree otherwise?

    48v systems

I have come across some of this terminology before. The basis as I understand it is that old telecommunications equipement used to operate at voltages up to 48 50 volts.. the lead acid batteries in telephone exchanges were nominally 48v. But when fully charged might be closer to 56v The...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

A good question. My suggestion would be 1. Set a threshold which is unambiguous 50% of voters +1 is not a good threshold. I could imagine a 60% margin from the status quo ante as a reasonable margin for change 2.Allow all interested uk subjects have a vote... That would include those no...

Fully understand your position. Nobody as far as I see in Europe is wanting to humiliate Mrs May. Its all self inflicted. The British cabinet is so internally conflicted that any progress is difficult. I would welcome a new referendum, or an admission that the time is not opportune

. The 350 million was a brilliant marketing stroke, no doubt about it. But a truth?. Any rational trusting person , on seeing how the politicians scrambled away from it , would have said .. never will I trust that person again.

Yes the EU does want you to stay.. something on the lines of " we are stronger together" , and it not just or even about the money. If you were interested you might carry through the budget analysis... http://ec.europa.eu/budget/news/article_en.cfm?id=201610131243 In a table referring to...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

Hi Tommie, an interesting piece, but not very dense with facts. A key point seems to be an arguement that the RoI is close to some tipping point, because a particularly reputable newspaper conducted a strawpoll of 1400 people in Dublin just after the summer holidays , 2.5 months after the...

I have already responded to the topic of the exit payments and won't bother repeating myself other than to reiterate that the piece I posted from the irish Times concurred with my analysis. The customs and border have been aired a number of times and it gets tiresome repeating the same...

I would think that as Tommie lives in Co Down , he has some idea . Whether he has lived enough of the" troubles " , to have a realistic view, may be in doubt, as he may have either direct experience or is believing stories he has been told by others that would depend on his age. . However I...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

If the UK leaves without an agreed customs structure, yes we will have a land border on the island. I flagged that up in one of my very early posts. I realised it on the day after the referendum. We know that, but we are not going to facilitate it. The problems of a UK outside the EU, without...

It was well understood on this side of the water. Why do you think the NI vote was 56% remain?.. even in the face of illegally sourced pro Brexit funding, and a strong DUP showing.
