    Alien bikes - ceased trading

I can understand that alien bikes did not have deep enough pockets to keep trading through the bad times. But what do you mean by 'caught between 2 price levels'? their Alien Aurora (£1,100) had a big fan base and was quite competitively priced.

    Alien bikes - ceased trading

You need to sell out the old model to start a new one. it's chicken and eggs. Can't do much without a consideable volume.

Check out the Woosh Sport TS here: http://wooshbikes.co.uk/?sport-ts The torque sensor is built into the motor. The pressure on the pedal turns a spring loaded disc inside the motor, the harder you pedal, the more the disc rotates. The output measures your pedalling effort. The Woosh TS uses...

if you only want throttle, you don't need to fit PAS sensor. On the XOFO with torque sensor, the torque output is plugged into the throttle, just pedal. You can create in the LCD as many assistance level as you like for fine-tuning. If you have hydraulic brakes, you don't even need to fit brake...

    Alien bikes - ceased trading

The kit market is about 10% of the main e-bike market, around 3000 kits a year. Alien kits weren't particularly expensive but neither cheap, it's a very difficult situation to trade from. They could not compete with low cost e-bayers or aliexpress traders on run of the mill kits and I guess...

    Bafang right motor?

With 250W motor, you can get up to 20mph derestricted, 350W up to 22mph, 500W up to 24mph. You can run 36V battery up to 500W. for fun bikes, it should be the 48V BPM CST motor. Total motor + battery about 8-9kgs. But if you want 30-40mph, even on flat roads, you need 1,000 to 2,000W DD motor...

yes, it's true. Some of XOFO motors have built into motor PAS & speed sensors too, like the one on the Woosh Sport TS. Why isn't this being done with more motors? These motors are made for the export market, so in comparatively quite small number. The other reason is reliability. There is...

    E-bike and conventional bike combined

sport models with crank motor, smallish battery on the down tube can keep nearly all the feel of normal bikes. As soon as you move the battery behind the seat post, the rear wheel is moved back by about 10cm, killing the feel of normal push bike. Bikes with rear hub motor and rack batteries are...

    Battery capacity

charge it to full, then discharge it through a load like geebee said. The three 12V 50W bulbs in series should burn about 120W - watch how long it takes to dim. If you are brave, leave it until the battery reaches LVC, the BMS should switch the lights out. Then charge up to full. You can measure...

Read the story here: http://extronebike.ca It's very doable - with experience. biky wants a bike to ride in the woods near where he lives.

    Momentum Upstart, thoughts?

I met a guy with one of these last month. His view: it's OK if you only need a runabout, that's what he uses the bike for. He did not like the limited gears. Otherwise the bike is light, very easy to cycle unassisted. I reckon it's good for London, does not attract vandals but small battery, no...

    Bafang right motor?

something like this one? seriously, the TC from Crystalyte is a big beast. building high power bikes is tricky. You'll need a lot of experience and about £2000, ask sacko.

    Attitude towards E-bikes

I have never, repeat never, encountered any animosity from non-electric riders. Even when I overtake relatively fit riders. Maybe it has something to do with my cheapo looking vehicle? I always pedal when I use electric assistance.
