on the subject of thought experiment, if the controller and BMS are on the same PCB, one could do something else to improve climbing ability: have two windings on the same motor. If the two windings are fed in parallel, the motor will be run on fast mode, if they are put in series, the motor...

this is only a thought experiment on this rainy day - the weather is too misearable to go out. Arrange 30 cylindrical batteries around a motor - arrange also controller and BMS on a donut PCB. That should fit into a 16" alloy moulded rim. The wheel should weigh about 4.5kgs. The only connection...

A (front) Copenhagen wheel could be an interesting solution to folding e-bikes, most folders already fold awkwardly, the task is made even worse with the electric conversion - wrong weight distribution, battery and cables to get in the way etc.

Copenhagen wheel -what do you think ?

this one looks much more plausible, the space seems sufficient to accommodate 36V 10AH battery. It sould not be too difficult for someone to make a bluetooth brake sensor for it.

the guy lives in China, the address in Austria may be 'virtual' or a garage. It's possible to buy just Mosso frames in China and add other components and electrics, that Mosso frame is about $200. I doubt he has a proper export licence, whois record does not reveal who owns the website, I...

unless you specify stainless steel spokes with your order, I suspect they fitted carbon steel spokes to your wheel. If you still have the broken spokes, it's easy to see the difference in colour. Carbon steel spokes are plated to look more like aluminum. I would not have thought BH would fit...

to check your wheel: air pressure is easy, you need to keep at least 40 psi plus, check the holes in the rim where the spoke nipples come through, you don't want any damaged eyelet/hole. Turn the bike upside down, spin the wheel gently. Is the wheel centered on the middle line of the bike frame...

for Chinese bikes to compete with the likes of AVE, you need to do conversions in the UK because the mechanical bikes will have to come from Taiwan and the conversion kits from China. Frank's bikes are the only ones that can do this at present time.

Maloflora can check the wheel himself for obvious problems: trueness, damaged eyelets, incorrect dishing, damaged tyre, air pressure and general solidity of the wheel. I am only guessing here, if the spokes keep breaking then the guy who did the repair did not do his job correctly. Ask somebody...

I think you over-reacted a little. The broken spokes are more likely the result of the wheel not properly trued than faulty spokes. You'd need something like 1000kg+ force to break the spoke in the middle, much less to break the spokes at the elbow where the spoke exits the hub hole. Spokes work...

you are in a unique situation, your views will be useful to members who want to get a bike for their commute. For example, I want comfort, lightness, equipment and braking power. I'd select one model that will be among your top 3 in those categories.

yes, thanks Tom. That frames the report you wrote, 3 got your praises out of 8 tested. Can you rank the ones you tested in order of preference? on comfort, range, power, equipment, suitability for commuting, value for money?
