These are the people who voted for Brexit. So it's all perfectly normal and what we should expect! .

A second reply on this post. Actually it's not all on top, many will not be. That's because it's mainly the elderly who will be hospitalised by Covid-19, the same elderly who take up so much of hospital resources already. And their higher covid deathrate will ease the load. .

Of course I agree if that EU estimate is correct. I think it a large exaggeration. That's first based on all the information from previous spreads like Saars which are said to have been more harmful than Covid-19. Second based on increased governmental measures of containment. And third...

Thanks, now corrected. It wasn't a zero out so much as my lousy typing. I was typing 48,000 but accidentally inserted a 5 between the 4 and 8. .

But it needs to be in perspective. In a true scale graph of the death rate, there will have to be an enormous increase in covid-19 deaths before the increase due to it will even begin to show. The same will be true of life expectancy, the figure will barely be dented. The low percentage...

ENOUGH Lets put this Covid-19 into perspective: China has had some 3100 coronavirus deaths over the weeks. Assuming a life expectancy of 80 years, their normal death rate in that country of 1.4 billion people is 48,000 PER DAY. . Italy is said to be hard hit with just over 1000 coronavirus...

Fair comment, in the UK politics is very much about expediency and looking after one's pals, especially when the Tories are in power. .

I was thinking more in terms of real lockdown, curfew style. I agree with you that the sort of measures you mention are easily enforced. .

Thanks OG. Looks like it's probably just a scare. I slept ok and this morning the nose has largely stopped running and it seems like it's just a common cold as I suspected. I haven't had one of those for more than a decade so had almost forgotten what they are like. .

I doubt lock down is even possible, every police officer in England and Wales is outnumbered about 500 to 1 by the population. The masses will only stay obedient for a short period before acting independently. .

Thanks, I hope so too, but with my inquiring nature I won't mind if it is Covid 19, just to discover what it is like. .

Yes it is: Some people with COVID-19 may sometimes experience additional symptoms, such as: runny or stuffy nose sore throat headache body aches and pains diarrhea I've got 1, 3, a bit of 4 and I also have heart valve disease, and this runny nose is really pouring. Still seems more like a...

Well I've managed to pick up something but I don't know if it's the coronavirus yet. Here's the history: Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday, no contact with anyone, mainly indoors and no symptoms. Today, Tuesday 12th. Drove to a large Sainsburys at circa 11am and it was exceptionally busy...

There are hardly any private doctors, the same NHS ones also do private medicine. And the private hospitals don't have ICUs or A and E, nor isolation facilities beyond the patient's rooms. These share the same staff, including non medical serving food, cleaning etc. .

This is going to vary considerably with the individual of course. I'd say check the history of your parents and their siblings and average their age at death. Then if within ten years of that familial mean age, that is old. For it is in that decade that physical decline and vulnerability to...

He didn't have one, nor any of the teachers since there were almost no cars just after the war. But while they were still walking and cycling I bought my first one only five years after being expelled, so my asociality didn't exactly harm me! I think what prompted his comment was my...

Same for me, except I don't even go that far, keeping my immediate family contact to a minimum and avoiding all other relatives. Fortunately time reduces their numbers, so I'm down to a sister in the USA I've seen once since 1956, that in 1974; a sister in Bulgaria I haven't seen for three...

Not possible though. I buy loose fruit and veg and some things elsewhere are loose within thin card boxes that are not totally sealed. The current anti-plastic campaigns are exposing far more foods to possible contamination. .
