Swansea cyclist catapulted from bike by string

A very unpleasant story. Why would anyone do this: Swansea cyclist catapulted from bike by string A cyclist was thrown from his bike after riding into a piece of string tied at neck height across a Swansea cycle path. David Stacey suffered head injuries and spent a night in Morriston Hospital...

    Disraeli gears

Was somewhat surprised to see this article in today's online Guardian. Possibly even more surprised at the sheer number of comments of which many are very appreciative. In my view, well worth a read. 10 weird and wonderful derailleurs – and how they changed cycling Cycling Bike blog...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

In my book, a parliament which does not have the power to summon almost anyone and impose sanctions (which could include fines, imprisonment, loss of citizenship, and others) is hardly likely to be recognised as sovereign, is it? (Of course, there can be arguments about summoning members of the...

    Helmets - again!

I'm not the jaunty type! Nor the flat cap sort. (Not long ago we were in a woollen mill with some of their own flat caps on display - I put one on and was immediately told by partner that they really were not my style. I agree!)

    Helmets - again!

Re-reading some of this thread, a thought suddenly hit me. If I didn't wear a helmet, just what would I wear in the rain and snow? I have a cheap helmet cover which effectively stops rain getting through to my skull. If I didn't have a helmet and cover, I'd want something else that would do a...

    Helmets - again!

Using deaths as the measure is, possibly, rather one-dimensional. From a personal point of view, if I die I am dead, and that's it. If I suffer a brain injury, from which a helmet just might have protected me, I might go through years of suffering. So far, the worst cycling injury I have had...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

Did anyone ever think it would, or even could, be otherwise? And playing with origins has been a major issue in trade for as long as anyone can remember! In this sort of situation, though, the evidence is probably relatively easy to gather.

If you have a recent installation of Firefox, go to Add-ons. It is a standard optional feature (which sounds very odd, but does make some sense). :)

High Wycombe had the answer to an overloaded A&E. Close it. Then they made the fatal mistake of having a minor injuries unit. So the self-same people you want to deal with their own injuries filled that unit. Including me. :( Severe cut to my hand from a woodsaw. Treatment was quick and...

I wondered what you were going on about. All I could see was a facebook link. That is, a bare text link. Then I remembered I have installed Facebook Container in Firefox which blocks all sorts of facebook-related things.

UK - legality of thumb-throttles in DIY conversions

Partner laughed and splurted out: "Not even that!" :) Before moving here, we came on many short holidays and had almost 100% good weather. (One time we had misty and damp for two or three days. That was compensated by things like paddling in pleasantly warm sea water in November.) Having...

Unfortunately, Tesla vehicles using "autopilot" might not help - given their reported difficulties in stopping before hitting stationary objects. [1] [1] Other autonomous vehicles with their own problems are also available - or not.

    Sheds for ebikes

Have discussed that possibility. When we wanted our main garden shed we had great difficulty finding anyone who would build one exactly as we wanted. Most of the companies had a basic design, or many basic designs, and would have been happy to modify them. Yet we didn't manage to get what we...

    Sheds for ebikes

Like the idea. BUT... This is a new build house and we visited the site during construction. The garden is a relatively thin layer of soil on top of solid rock. Unless Kim Jong Un lends some of his explosives (nuclear or conventional) there ain't going to be an underground shed here!
