    Police ebike checks.

the threat that the police are able (if) to verify e-bike speed should be enough to reduce substantially the number of e-bikes fitted with direct drive motors.

    Brexit, for once some facts.

I didn't know that BJ has a radical plan to level up the economy. As far as I can see since BJ becomes PM, there is no 'up' sign. consumers' confidence is down, not up. Car factories' output is down, not up. The value of the Pound has not improved. and where would the money come from? Already...

if they pull me in at a public place, maybe but definitely not at my home, they'd need to show me a warrant!

for fairplay, you need losers consent to a win. However, the 2016 referendum produced a result where both sides do not consider themselves losers, therefore, no consent. I have no problem with leavers have a go of making brexit work. Many of us, on both sides, believe in the greatness of this...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

in his show, Ed Balls tries hard to get to the point about brexit votes were a protest against the administration of that time. I think the Leave campaign cleverly deflected the criticism from the conservatives to David Cameron's remainer agenda. He implies that the result was undemocratic...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

who watched Ed Balls in Euroland last night on BBC2? He met up with AfD's MP Frank Magnitz. Magnitz brought a poster with him to the street where he met up with his supporters. The poster says: we prefer bikini to burkas. He had previously another poster of a pregnant woman: future Germans? we...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

next US presidential election is November 3rd, before your 12 months. If he loses, I expect the whole world will know the extend of his chaotic administration and perhaps how much tax he has or hasn't paid. If he wins, then the world will have to put up with more of the same: tax cut for the...

He wasn't judged by a Court in the normal sense. Have you ever seen a Court that denies witnesses to be called? There is no surprise if I say that Donald Trump is a good president to his supporters, bad president for the rest of the world.

Torque sensor setups. Experience and comments please!

the torque sensor is slightly simpler to fit if you have standard 68mm bottom bracket and single chainring. If you have double or triple chainring then the cadence sensor kit is simpler. TSkit doesn't have the throttle and brake sensors. Compared to the TSDZ2, the TSkit fits bikes with gear...

Torque sensor setups. Experience and comments please!

yes, you get more power on the same assist level if you pedal faster. The power follows a pattern: ramp up then sustain. The 5 assist levels determine the current as a percentage of the maximum: 50%, 65%, 80%, 90%, 100%. It feels pretty natural, no jolt. There is not much difference in feel...

Torque sensor setups. Experience and comments please!

yes, that's correct, higher cadence, more pressure, you get more power and no jolt. The torque sensor feels quite natural in use. I have not seen any torque sensor damaged by pedaling. If you ride leisurely on a flatish road, there is very little difference between the two systems. But if you...

Mid Drive for off trail and Hub Motor for flat commutes, true or false?

on bikes with torque sensor, the cadence sensor is needed all the time - if the cadence sensor stops, the bike stops. The risk you have with the throttle on e-bikes is a mechanical jam.

2 x 10 speed - that's good news. You can use either 48V SWX02 in stock or the DWG22C at the end of the month. If you go with the SWX02, you'll need to get this part: https://www.sjscycles.co.uk/freewheels/sunrace-10-speed-freewheel-1136t/ If you get the DWG22C, you can re-use the existing cassette.

Mid Drive for off trail and Hub Motor for flat commutes, true or false?

the one next to the motor's spindle is the white nylon gear (called the primary reduction gear). The other is built into the centre of the large main gear, you can rotate the cranks backward without turning the main gear but if you turn the cranks forward, the clutch latches and turns the main...

Mid Drive for off trail and Hub Motor for flat commutes, true or false?

two clutches, one for the motor (so called the primary reduction gear on the BBS01 and blue gear on the TSDZ2, same as the clutch on the hub motor), and one for the bottom bracket / cranks which is found in the middle of the main gear cog.

Mid Drive for off trail and Hub Motor for flat commutes, true or false?

that's why I said you have to try a modern hub bike like my 16kg Faro. It's nothing like your urban mover. I like it so much that it's been my bike for a year now. Here is a typical gearbox inside a Bafang motor. The ballbearing in the centre is a one way needle bearing, acting as a clutch. CD...

Mid Drive for off trail and Hub Motor for flat commutes, true or false?

no, that won't work. The torque sensor only operates when you have a cadence signal as well so that the controller knows that you are moving, not just resting your foot on the pedal at traffic lights. The torque sensor has a special quality, it acts immediately like the throttle.

    shopping list please!

yes, the 48V SWX02 will fit but I have a question for you: how many gears have you got on your X-Caliber? This is because the 48V SWX02 motor has thread for a freewheel instead of cassette adapter and SJS only stocks Sunrace 8, 9 and 10-speed freewheel, not 11-speed freewheel. The alternative is...

    The end of the Pedelec!

I often come across totally law abiding customers who need the throttle only for a few weeks to a few months while waiting for their injuries / operations to heal and they have been told categorically by many shops that throttle wasn't allowed. They certainly are not after going over the speed...
