    The end of the Pedelec!

they are only street legal for the duration of small scale experiments in specific cities, but you are correct, if and when they are made legal, the twist and go throttle should be legal too.

Mid Drive for off trail and Hub Motor for flat commutes, true or false?

from this comment I can see you haven't ridden modern hub motor bikes (like my 16.5kg Faro which has an Aikema motor with 1:12 reduction) for many years! The motors inside the hub motors are no less efficient than those powering the mid drives. The only difference is hub motors have the stator...

    First ebike (lower budget) advice?

they are not wrong, most of the hub drive bikes that you'll find in the shops are of lower quality because of the pricing structures. The bike without the electrics would cost about £300, that does not leave much for the electrics. Crank drive bikes are usually fitted with Bosch drive units...

    Need some advice

I stopped selling the 36V BBS02B 3 years ago, partly because we don't want people derestricting their bikes and get us to fix their motors. We had something like 5 dead BBS02 controllers against one BBS01. That's also why we are reticent to sell components on their own, we just could not be sure...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

more voters oppose the conservatives: CON: 43.6% Against them: Labour: 32.2% + LibDems: 11.6% = 43.8% They have more votes than the conservatives (43.8%) - that's before counting all the other opposition parties: SNP, Green, PC, Sin Fein. We have a kind of democracy but it's far from perfect.

Hello, first post , Cargo Bike retro fit advice and disscussion

that's why I said if he does not care about how the conversion will look like, he can just weld a rear wheel parallel to the existing one. The wheel will push the bike when energised. The best solution is still to change the leftie fork for a normal fork.

I've seen one like that opposite Sainsbury's in Southend. It has a quite noisy ventilation when it works.

Hello, first post , Cargo Bike retro fit advice and disscussion

a rear hub motor does not need to be connected to the drive train. In fact, you can remove the chain and can still ride the bike home with your hub motor. The cadence sensor will pick up the pedaling, the brake sensors will still stop the motor when you brake etc. Just imagine you mount a tiny...

Mid Drive for off trail and Hub Motor for flat commutes, true or false?

yes. Compared to middle motors: Hub motors don't get splashed by surface water, relieve stress and strain on your drivetrain and cheaper to buy.

I can see the benefit of your scheme at busy motorways service stations.

this part is not necessary and it complicates the thinking. that's too, not easy and not particularly useful because after the conversion, they don't need to change gear often or at all so why getting rid of the derailleur?

    Brexit, for once some facts.

I guess the current subsidy for e-cars may stop before 2035 and there would still be a need for dual fuel for some years to come until the charging time won't be an issue anymore.

Hello, first post , Cargo Bike retro fit advice and disscussion

there is no need to add a new freewheel nor gearbox. If he does not mind how the conversion looks, he only has to mount the rear motor wheel parallel to the existing rear wheel. Job done.

Hello, first post , Cargo Bike retro fit advice and disscussion

I can't see how a rear hub motor would go on your cargo bike. If I were to convert your cargo bike, I would try to locate first a replacement fork with standard 100mm dropout then use the XF07 on 20" rim kit...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

not the case of the hybrids. They will be banned from sale from 2035. I am not sure about banning from use. That may arrive shortly afterward. I do like the idea of a PHEV with about 100 mile range on electric. It's enough from Southend to London and back. If you can't wait in a queue for a...

    Question about regen braking

if you don't have regen, your bike wastes about 2%-3% battery on braking. You can only recuperate some of that 2%-3%. If regen is 25% efficient, then you recover 25% of the 2%-3% - that means your mileage is going to be extended by about 0.5%. There are sophistcated regen controllers that cater...

I am surprised that you are defending BJ on this one. Those who are enraged bought their hybrids and PHEVs until recently. Cars are supposed to last 20+ years and most people including myself buy usually second hand.

    Question about regen braking

http://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=7891 nowhere on a normal controller. The FETs block the reverse current unless you have a controller with regen function. Read the analysis of Justin Lemore in the ES thread. Regen gives back usually less than 1% of the battery you use, plus...

    Need some advice

you've got the BBS02 before, so you know how easy it is to change the speed limit in your kit. The simple way not to kill your BBS02 is to always keep the revs above 60 RPM. The BBS02 itself is very durable.
