    Battery help

I keep repeating myself but the battery isn't where you want to be saving money. On my dream bike there is a 17 Ah HL Li-Ion battery with internal controller at over 600€ but I can't buy it right now. So I have a LiPo pack which cost so far 180 € for 8 Ah usable at 37 V soon to become 16 Ah...

    lightweight assistance and proportional power

What about the Q100 CST from bmsbattery? 2.1 kg is about as light as you can go in a "normal" rear hub cassette motor. You are about a Kg lighter than a bafang. d8veh had quite good things to say about these motors performance wise and apparently had success running with a 48 V battery which...

    New Gtech ebike

I think you will find that from "half" full capacity will fall off faster. @tommie the man is a cyclist, he only needs assistance from start at lights and on the steeper hills.

    Battery help

It isn't complicated it just requires a bit of discipline and common sense. You have to be there during the charge, but charging doesn't take long. Choosing the right charger(s) is very important and the most expensive bit of kit. Will 20 Ah fit there where there are 15 Ah at the moment...

    Number Two

Yesterday I bought a smartphone bag thingy to mount on the handlebars. Some interesting facts about GPS: it doesn't work under plane trees! You lose about 4 km/h as soon as you go under trees (I think the GPS goes into estimation mode when the signal is bad). So only the average speed can be...

Should the over 70's be banned from driving?

What do you mean you are taking my trailer away and I can't ride my pedelec to the supermarket? Is there another way to go shopping? What are these "cars" of which you speak? I have been car free for almost 3 years. OK I cheat the young SWMBO has a car I can borrow but do you know what, I don't...

Double pinion kit for bosch emtb

Yeah I would guess rubbing on cassette then. Bikes are fabulous when it comes to detecting where a noise is from they transmit vibrations so well. I have a seat noise but you would swear one of the pedals is loose...

Double pinion kit for bosch emtb

What is the chainline like in those gears? Noise may be coming from the cassette. Same noise on both chainwheels or only on the big one?

    Haibike square taper crank arms

I am looking for a pair of square taper crank arms either 170 or 165. I see Haibike make those for the Yamaha motor and they are available in the UK "for our clients only" as OEM spares. Any other source for these, in Germany maybe? SW?

    Hub Drive or Crank Drive?..

Mxus - try getting it appart to grease it, needs special tool There are reports of water ingress most often through the cable entry Torque arms Internal gears and clutch There are issues, just maybe less per km and by the sheer number of motors out there.

Is buying 500w ebike a good idea to commute through the city?

A 350 or 500 W nominal motor that cuts out at 25 km/h is less of a risk than having shoddy brakes and tyres. Stopping and handling in corners and on the slippery are where riding a pedelec is the most dangerous.

    Hub Drive or Crank Drive?..

How about this idea: Road bike with small, light 250 W hub motor Single gear rear Two chainwheels - one for downhill/flat and another for climbing/resting Tiny 6 Ah battery No extra wires, Bluetooth connected controller Like your Gtech you are doing most of the work the motor is there for...

Are ebikes worth the price tag?

What kind of battery do you expect to be on a bike retailing for £500? Cheap no-name 18650s are useless on hills (sag) and have short lifespans. The user experience will be sub par. Electric motors are a dime a dozen even though they have an expensive metal at their heart. Kalkhoff have shown...

    Hub Drive or Crank Drive?..

Now that I have some road experience with both drives (same terrain): What is this "too much load on the gear system" of which you speak? Gears changing as smooth as silk here, I am changing my gears without powering down at all. In both cases correct gearing is a must. My hub top gear was a...

Is buying 500w ebike a good idea to commute through the city?

Can you see where a lycra is faster? It may surprise you all but it is in the last third, where I take the cycle path and am at about 15 km/h, while the lycras stay on the road.

Should the over 70's be banned from driving?

Full licences have to be renewed once every ten years until the driver is 75. Drivers must then renew their drivers licence on their 75th birthday, 80th birthday, and every second birthday after that. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Driving_licence_in_New_Zealand Damned civilized country if you...

Boston Ze and Bafang Max Bicycle in UK

The Montague with the Ze motor is interesting - a G-tech you can fold and with a chain. The step through frame is just like what I just built but with a GSM! The battery is in the wrong place, there is a Bafang battery box that might fit in there.
