Is buying 500w ebike a good idea to commute through the city?

I think that in stop and go city traffic there is no gain over a legal 250W pedelec, or so little as to make it not worth while. A 45km/h bike becomes useful on the open road.

    Leaving battery on bike

You can charge every two or three days no problem. The bottle battery was on my first bike for over 12 months because I charge at the bottom of the stairs.

    Talk torque please.

They are usually much smaller and a bit lighter.

    Talk torque please.

No it is a Direct Drive. "1000W brushless and gearless rear hub motor (comes restricted to the UK/EU regulation of 250W power and 25km/h speed by default. Reaches up to 50km/h once de-restricted to the 1000W mode.)" Geared hubs have a reduction gear inside so that they can spin internally at...

New Bike - Specialized Turbo Levo

They are German so they are applying the Factor 4 regulation apparently. Read the article on Bike Europe about Factor 4 about half way down the page

Hobby king multi star on offer

As the Euro goes down against the Dollar HobbyKing prices rise, on items in stock... We have pedelecs but our fuel prices are affected by currency fluctuations just like petrol in the local petrol station. How reassuring.

My GSM / Muddy Fox eBike build

There are a couple of good reasons to use LiPos, price is one and lack of sag when climbing the other. They require a bit of discipline but the danger of using them is less on a bicycle than in a toy which is prone to crashing as long as you respect them and don't use them below 3.6 V and charge...

Long time - Back on board need advice.

The first thing I did on both was bin the tyres! :D Both bikes were given to me. First bike a friend gave me it had been in his attic 8 years, imagine the state of the tyres... Put Michelin City with Schwalbe tubes on it and the rear gave up after 3200 km, the front is like new. Hub motors are...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

Got paid in pounds again - down 9% against the dollar... The kiwi advantage in engineering - we had 44 gallon drum rafts, you could cross the Pacific on one of those! I built my first boat at age twelve from a NZ $22 ply kit, a small fortune at the time. At the farm sale 20 years later it was...

Long time - Back on board need advice.

Ouch! Never leave home without a repair kit or a couple of spare tubes! As a father of three boys I have long since decided that life was too short to save money buying supermarket tyres and tubes... Next time may be sooner than you would hope. That being said I think they may have upped their...

My GSM / Muddy Fox eBike build

You are riding in traffic? I average about 25km/h (at least I did on my hub motor) but it isn't as flat around here. I am going to buy a mount for my GPS (a.k.a. smartphone) so will see how fast I go on my new steed. As it is more comfortable I have the impression that I am going much slower, no...

Giant Roam XRE or Giant Prime E + 2?

The advantage of the prime is the Yamaha motor in the hilly area. And the comfortable riding position, you aren't doing the Tour de France :D I think it will be very suitable. You will be keeping an un-powered bike I presume? The battery is a bit small but if you are a cyclist and pedaling you...

    Step through bikes

I now ride a "woman's" frame a.k.a. mixte. Because with two full paniers and/or a trailer attached throwing a leg over in town was getting boring. And I am at the "I don't care what you think" age, as are the young ladies riding diamond frame fixies are I guess... No that would probably be: "you...
