I think that now that there are companies specialised in re-celling battery packs your worries may be lesser founded. If I had the money to buy a factory made bike this one would definitely get a test ride because of the brose motor and the possibility of having a double chainring on front.

I have never ridden a bike with a Rohloff but it is the bit of bike kit that keeps me buying lotto tickets... With an after market trigger shifter of course! Another 250+ €

Getting a fatty up that hill

Although I am only 78 kg as soon as you add two pannier bags of shopping or better still a whole trailer load (40 kg) the >130 kg total rolling weight is quite easy to obtain! My hydraulic front rim brake has given me total confidence in my ability to stop. Before it I was riding on a wing and a...

    will i notice a differance on hills 26" v 700c

You can buy an internal controller for that battery type at BMSBattery. If you don't mount the throttle you won't need the brake cut off so that means less wires.

1-1-2016 Today's Change in the Law.

Do you think that policemen have any idea about pedelec law? I can see them running off to the on board car computer to brush up on the texts here. I bet their first thought would be "anything that has a motor is a moped and needs registration, helmet, etc..."

Once you see one the question becomes "why would I buy that piece of xxx?" if you know anything about bikes. I bet there are hundreds rusting away broken and unused. And SLA battery, need I say more... The cheapest Decathlon bike is now 750€, the cheaper ones were costing them too much in...

    2 bikes 1 e-bike system?

The battery is the most expensive component. Your best bet would be to mount two complete motor kits and swap the battery. This would leave the bike without battery usable too but un-motorised. Then when you win the lotto you can buy a second battery :D

Anyone Fancying a PUNT on the new Impulse Evo bike in 2016

Define cheap. I did a costing spreadsheet the other day (end of year thing...). My bike came out at 0.13€ a kilometre including amortization. In real life terms I am saving 0.18€ compared to public transport every time I go to the station. Electricity is 0.11€ per 100 km - electricity plus...

I think that this is something a bit of artistic drilling and a dob or two of silicone will be fixing in the coming months...

    variable regenerative braking

Regen is great for braking but not so great for charging because the charging port of the BMS is expecting 2 A current over a long period of time whereas regen produces massive gobs of current over a very short period (you go faster down hill than up).

I would like to see an LCD that has plugs for brakes, lights and whatever and just one wire out to the controller which could be user fed through the frame. At the other end wire colour code would make it easy to solder to the controller end plugs or a rats tail wire coming out of the...

Hung for a sheep or lamb.....

Starting aids can be fitted here on the continent but they aren't. All the French electric bike sites have illegal throttles for sale however. The thing is I have not seen a bike with a kit on it since I built mine. All the pedelecs I have seen are brands or cheap Chinese bikes sold in supermarkets!

More speed from BPM 36V500 26 Code 10

50-12 or 50-13 would be my choice, it would be gentler on the rear sprocket and chain. Can a 50 tooth chain wheel be mounted to the GSM kit trex?

Hung for a sheep or lamb.....

My main destination is 33.7 km (21 miles) away. At the moment I ride 14 km to a station and get on a train with the bike. I average 25 kph on that route so if I drop the train ride and cycle the full journey it should take 1:20. Last summer I did it in 1:45 , an average of 19.25 kph with...

Clacking noise - Kalkhoff Impulse 2 motor

I don't think that a "only" 1% motor failure rate is very good at all. Imagine if car makers had the same rate of failure! A more acceptable rate, from a businessmans point of view would be 1 in 10,000 or 0.01%. From my point of view the Impulse factory quality control isn't up to scratch. The...

Hung for a sheep or lamb.....

Range is my problem with a 10.4 A battery so after experimenting a bit my bike is limited to 25 kph (26 kph actually but the power cuts out at 25 kph). So I guess it is legal because within the 10% tolerance. Of course it isn't really legal because it doesn't have the correct markings, it is...

Hung for a sheep or lamb.....

There is no need to go that far a GSM at 18 A x 48 V already peaks at over 800 W. Or a 250 W X 25 A Norwegian BBS01 or even a reprogrammed to 18 A stock standard BBS01. Then it all boils down to what do you want to use it for? Speed over short range = leisure use or range with extra oumpf for...
