Can you show a pic of the wiring you shorted please, because the S series controller you originally showed has 5 wire lcd connector and the later Ku has 4 wire connector. Both are made by Kunteng.

Mostly likely you will have damaged the controller but often they go smell/pop or magic smoke appears. It is remotely possible if the battery is fused that the fuse might have gone and saved you, so worth a check. Otherwise another controller.
