Moto GP racing used to have a 50cc class which could exceed 85mph (140 kph), later in the 1980s replaced by the 80cc class which was very popular in Spain. And Moto 3 125ccs were impressive, the record top speed on an Aprilia being just over 155 mph (250 kph) back in 1996. .

That was over 26 years after those I posted about, which were designed at the end of the 1940s and very poor climbers. They would have had no hope without their pedals. You may not be aware of it, but even the 98cc autocycles had to have pedals then, both to start and assist on steeper climbs...

Yes, the 50ccs of yesteryear were nothing like today's 50cc. Even the two strongest of the 49cc bike motors in the 1950s, the PowerPak and the BSA Winged Wheel, couldn't begin to match today's typical e-bike climb ability. .

Stunning Mercedes Smart eBike reaches new heights!

No, it's educational. Within it has just been revealed that most of the Royal Navy's ships are unfit for duty, leaving us unprotected. And that the Army has more than twice as many horses (440) than battle tanks. Shades of Tennyson's "Charge of the Light Brigade", but we can't even manage...

The 25cc black version back wheel is shown below, I used to fit them in the 1950s. Later models were 32cc in grey as in the second photo. There were many other makes with other drive methods:

I use the dropdown Forums heading, last item, New Posts. That shows posts in every forum posted in since your last visit, so nothing gets missed. That relegates Brexit to just another of the Charging Post subjects posted to. .

A bit of an exaggeration, 9 other subjects have been subscribed to in there so far this week alone, 3 of them yesterday. .

    Update on N.I. e-bike regs.

That's the equivalent of the EU type approval regulation that I quoted in my previous post. It makes up for the failure to implement the EU regulation. However that's the law on the vehicle, not the user. I think you could use that to argue for exemption from registration and MOTs since those...

    Update on N.I. e-bike regs.

I'm not familiar with prior N.I. law which didn't get updated with the 2003 exemption for pedelecs from being motor vehicles contained in Exemptions sub-section (h) of the Two and Three Wheeled Type Approval regulation 2002/24/EC. That applies elsewhere in the UK, but transport being devolved...

It's EU pedelec law, no need for bureaucracy, just ride like an ordinary bicycle. .

    Update on N.I. e-bike regs.

Danidl is right and Halfords are giving bad advice. An e-bike used unregistered is illegal there, regardless of whether switched off, without battery, or even broken down. .

    Kalkhof Agattu 2012

They're lithium and being from 2012, probably the Kalkhoff-BMZ batteries with 18650 cells, rather than the Panasonic polymer ones. At five years old one or both may be at end of life due to age as much as usage, five years being a good life for these. I'm not sure whether the motor unit is...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

Of course no, which is why the Nepalese have no tanks. More sensible than the Swiss many years ago who bought a number of our Centurian heavy tanks. They then realised they had nowhere suitable for exercises using them so made an arrangement with the French to use one of their training grounds. .

    Brexit, for once some facts.

And I learnt yesterday that the British Army has some 440 horses, but less than half that number of battle tanks. Only one other army in the world has more horses than tanks, the Nepalese, and that's only because they have no tanks. .

    Battery 'seasoning'?

The charge and discharge X times mainly relates to setting the battery meter zero on a very few batteries with intelligent meters. It doesn't do anything for battery life. Ideally avoid completely emptying when that's not necessary, since they like being topped up, but don't worry on the...

    Update on N.I. e-bike regs.

I agree it might not be helpful. The police there have given a sort of nod and wink that as long as a rider is behaving, they are unlikely to take any notice of a pedelec rider. Forcing them to take notice could harden attitudes. A better time to demonstrate to ridicule the authorities would...

    Update on N.I. e-bike regs.

It just gets sillier and sillier with the introduction of needing a group Q driving licence for a 15.5 mph vehicle, A further complication is that the 14 years lower limit for riding pedelecs loses force, the minimum age when riding under a group Q licence is 16 years. . .

    Update on N.I. e-bike regs.

It does apply in the absence of an exemption for pedelecs from being classed as motor vehicles. The Twist and Go regulation is then the minimum class for pedelecs to be classified into as motor vehicles. The regulation doesn't require them to have a throttle. In any case Twist and Go is an...
