    Brexit, for once some facts.

I've always regarded that as due to commercialisation, nothing to do with the EU. Everywhere we go we see the same supermarkets, the same clothing shops, the same sports shops. So the brands we are offered are the same and uniformity results. Supra-national too, Tesco, McDonalds, Aldi, Lidl...

    Introduction

Welcome to the forum Brian, you've obviously really caught the e-biking bug! :) .

    Brexit, for once some facts.

As I've pointed out before, there is no such thing, areas always maintain their characters and buck uniformity. After 250 years of union, are the Scots just like the English, and after 2000 years together in England, are the people of Yorkshire, Devon and Norfolk identical? The only...

E-bike with motors greater than 250w, speeds above 15mph and the UK police

There's always been a lot going on behind the scenes, BEBA even had an active parliamentary lobbyist in the person of Lord Laird in the House of Lords. There's also an All-Party Parliamentary Cycling Group, since many of the MPs and Lords cycle to the Houses. They've had e-bikes brought to...

That would certainly get her the larger majority she needs to railroad through her Brexit intentions. At present the Commons position is bit wobbly, they may side with the Lords. .

    and next on their list?

I'd be very happy for them to run this country now, they'd do a much better job than our bunch. .

But that's typical of fans, all too often wannabees admiring what they'd like to be. .

E-bike with motors greater than 250w, speeds above 15mph and the UK police

Basically I am doing that, since the lobby group are the trade and private members in here. We participated in the consultation that led to our present 2015 UK law. We've never just accepted EU rules, our trade bodies have taken part in the committees that create the laws, the most recent...

E-bike with motors greater than 250w, speeds above 15mph and the UK police

At present witn probably only about 100,000 e-bikes in regular use acros the whole of the UK, being few and far between the authorities don't take much notice. If ever they become much more popular and, like the petrol motor add-ons of the 1950s, achieve over a million on the roads, speed...

    French State subsidises eBikes

No chance here in the UK, not only was the subsidy only for Electric and Hybrid cars at £5000, the government has now slashed it to £4500 for electric, £2500 for plug-in hybrids. It's all about government cost cutting now. .

E-bike with motors greater than 250w, speeds above 15mph and the UK police

The legislators here and in mainland Europe don't see it the same way. Much of the USA's ebiking is for fun and informal sport, not much is utility cycling for transport. The use V8s for that. Our legislators, as in Japan, exclude any sport bikes on the basis those riders don't need...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

I think that is rational, even to be expected. Vladimir Putin is decisive, knows what he wants and gets it, not taking no for an answer. Faced with Chechen rebellion, he crushed them. Faced with the threat to his southern fleet home port, he acquired the Crimea to safeguard it. Then to help...

E-bike with motors greater than 250w, speeds above 15mph and the UK police

Indeed. we are suffering partly from British caution, the initial assist speed limit in 1983 being 12 mph. That wasn't surprising, since assist wasn't for sporting bikes and British utility cycling post WW2 was all at around 12 mph, as I well remember. No sporting aspirations back then...

E-bike with motors greater than 250w, speeds above 15mph and the UK police

Brighton doctors could recommend that pedestrian route as an exercise for their overweight patients! I remember some members posting that the 10 mph limit was being rigidly enforced on bikes at one time. Whether the council kept that up I don't know. .

    Brexit, for once some facts.

Blair's theory was the widely held one that there aren't enough of the electorate who regard themselves as working class labour. Many who would once have been Labour now regard themselves as middle class, and that is an increasing trend as the nature of work changes. He was right of course...

Except that it adds to the national debt and the interest we pay on that. I'm sure each UK adult would rather have that near £1000 a year in their pocket than paying that interest. .
