    Brexit, for once some facts.

Not so! Just over 7 seconds 0 to 60 mph is pretty impressive for a moderate size family hatchback, when the ICE competition mostly take well over 10 seconds and often over 15 seconds. BMW are clearly protecting their reputation with e-cars. .

You'll still be safe while in France though, regardless of what the British hold on you, since we'll be out of the EU. .

No problem with that, I've posted as much myself. But you've ignored the type of hybrid ICE that I posted about which will increasingly take over, much more rapidly than you appear to think. Car design and specification is increasingly being taken over by legislators as they tackle emissions...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

As I said, it's been tried already for many years, so one has to ask why it hasn't arrived in practice. Of course there's no problem with getting the electrical operation timing right, but there is a very big problem with magnetic latency. Magnetic fields take time to die so solenoid...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

This has been experimented with in various forms by the western car companies but with no worthwhile gains it seems. If there were, these valves would have appeared in F1 race engines at least. There could be a sales advantage in production cars, since consumers are suckers for new technology! .

    Brexit, for once some facts.

A desmedromic form of such engines without valve springs have been around for decades, as have electronically controlled valve designs. The all conquering Mercedes SLR series sports and Grand Prix cars of the mid 1950s were all desmedromic engined and Ducati have used desmedromic V twins for...

This is why General Motors preferred to let SAAB cars collapse and disappear, rather than let the Chinese buy the troubled company from their stable. For some while GM had been using the basis of their older Opel designs (Cavalier/Vectra) in SAAB models, equipping them with current Opel...

True, but the drive would still be detached for a part of the duty cycle, reducing the power available. .

    Battery life please.

Definitely no worry over those battery connectors. But as AnotherKiwi says, keep an eye on the bike with regard to corrosion in that damp atmosphere and take preventative measures to prevent the corrosion taking hold. .

Trump will be regularly caught out with such inconsistencies, a motormouth is his substitute for policies. I wonder how he'll tackle his Mexican wall promise once he discovers that Walmart don't stock a readymade range of walls. .

    Brexit, for once some facts.

Surely you know reversals of a statement are not necessarily true. That a people with commonsense and good behaviour want to remain in the EU does not mean that all people who want to remain in the EU are necessarily endowed with commonsense and are of good behaviour. I don't need to fly...

Yes they really are on the whole a very civilised and orderly people, evidently well endowed with commonsense. That of course is why they wish to remain in the EU which they strongly support. .

    Battery life please.

Lithium batteries are suited to cyclic operation, so topping up after a reasonable amount of use isn't harmful. Half an hours riding using power usually takes enough out to make recharging worthwhile, and that also ensures you get the best performance on your next ride out. Keeping the battery...

Brexit, actually the UK has come out rather well.

I should add to my above post that my solution is only in consideration of the electric assist bike regulations. The authorities might well still rule that carrying an operating generator on an electric vehicle brings it within motor vehicle law on the grounds that it comes under exhaust...

Also their primary reason for wanting to get rid of the Human Rights Act is that it would removes almost all necessity to amend or repeal the unlawful acts I've mentioned. One of those unlawful acts though would still be unlawful under article 8 of the Geneva Convention which is fully...

Superficially that could theoretically be legal, but it's questionable whether such a system could be tested using the EN15194 standard, so might not be able to be approved. More importantly though, given the legal restrictions on our very limited power motors, the drive power downtime could...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

"The Canary" draws attention to a bill that I've already been following the progress of. It follows a path that from 1994 has resulted in a succession of laws which are increasingly draconian and in at least four cases are in breach of our own pre-existing laws. This has been commented on by...

Yes. If it was the one battery on the bike, definitely illegal, since current from the generator would be going directly to the motor as well as charging. That makes it a petrol vehicle with electric transmission, another form of hybrid. .

I take the same relaxed view of the issue. I flirted with higher assist speed back in 2006/7 but soon dropped back to the legal restricted assist speed. Not on safety or legal grounds but comfort, simply because 15/16 mph was more relaxed, while 22 mph was often more an eye watering...
