    Servicing Schedule

If you want to do this yourself, you don't have to spend much time. Probably 30 minutes spent on each bike is all you need. It's easy and satisfying. First job is to clean the bike with a dry brush and clean rag. You can wash the tyres with brush and a bucket of water but don't let water gets...

Total cost of an ebike, around 45p a mile?

it is a lot easier to look after your bike than looking after your car. However, the most basic task is to keep your tyres inflated to the correct pressure and a lot of people don't even check their tyre pressure.

I think you are over optimistic on the residual value of second hand bikes. They tend to fall into two categories: low mileage and high mileage commuter bikes. From the low mileage, I expect 30%-35% depreciation for one year olds, 50%-60% for 2 year olds. From the high mileage bikes, the value...

there is some truth in it though. If you spend that much money, you wouldn't mind spending a little every year on maintenance. Some bikes that come to my workshop are in truly poor state, caked in mud, with kinks in brake cables, brake pads worn to near metal, has never seen a drop of grease...

The mechanical bike will last probably a generation. There is no reason why it should last any less than bikes built a generation or two ago. The material is better, there are far more non-rust alloy and stainless parts on it than before. The crankset is GXP, it won't seize up like old BBs. The...

As far as I am aware, oiniontrololol sorted the problem out himself. The Karoo is a very good bike, mechanically and electrically.

It'll last longer than a lot of £2k CD bikes while requiring a lot less maintenance. CD bikes are usually more expensive to buy and maintain than bikes with geared hub motors.

    Cube Reaction versus Cross Hybrid

yes, I think it would. Acera and Suntour coil forks are the stuff I put on my £800-£1,000 bike. I've put better stuff on my £1,000+ bikes. Crank drives rely on slick gear change to reduce wear and tear on the drivetrain. There should not be any basic stuff there.

    Cube Reaction versus Cross Hybrid

You would expect from a £2000 bike £1400 on the electrics and £600 on the bike. Not for the suggested two. The SR NEX-E25 is inexpensive, worth about £60. The Shimano BR-M315 are also the cheapest from Shimano, £16.99 each. I don't think there is anything wrong with Cube bikes but I reckon...

I don't have experience with the Max Drive but going by the BBS01/02, running on 36V battery, on maximum cadence (on throttle) is about 86 rpm. Top efficiency is about 70-75 rpm. It's about 20% higher running on 48V. assuming front 36T rear 11T at 70 RPM: 18.8mph at 75 RPM: 20.2mph

IMHO, high current drain is only required for CD and DD kits. Geared hub motors rarely need more than 20A.

I move to the middle ground, the Bafang SWX02 is between BPM and SWXH. It's still as simple and durable as the other two but lighter in weight than the BPM. As with all geared hub motors, derestriction does not affect much the life of the motor. Battery wise, the trend is now moving from 15AH to...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

they (the owners of our newspapers) only want low taxes. The entire tory's propaganda is based on 'waste'. They claim there is so much waste in public services that if you vote for them, you'll get better service for less tax. If Mr Corbyn wants to win, he has to use the same tactic. Labour will...

    Battery types l-ion vs li-nmc

I agree. The choice is usually down to your power requirements. Between high 10A-20A continuous discharge but 3000mAH and high capacity 3,400mAH at 5A, I prefer high capacity and 17.5AH instead of 15AH. I fit mostly 17A or 18A controllers to my new bikes, the batteries are configured in 10S5P...
