Yet another London female cyclist dies

Well that's yet another disadvantage of having a low forward truck cab! Just as well it was in a left-hand drive vehicle country. .

Yet another London female cyclist dies

A lot of truth in all this John, but it has to be said that the measures already taken over the last four years have worked as far as the 80% of male cyclists are concerned. The remaining problem for cyclists vis-a-vis HGVs as I've repeatedly said is a gender one. And quite apart from trucks...

Yet another London female cyclist dies

Sorry to disappoint! I got that the point you made was to some extent meant to be provocative, but it contained too much truth for me to be upset by it. Whether we like it or not and many don't, London has quite recently become another country, having little in common with elsewhere in Great...

Yet another London female cyclist dies

In some ways we are, for example in London British born white people are also a minority now. Otherwise such differences are often due to our conditions being very different from those in much of the country. .

Yet another London female cyclist dies

I've never said nothing can be done about it, only that trucks that have to fully access any construction sites are restricted in what they can have as provisions. I've said they cannot have low forward cabs, they cannot have low enough side guard fences and they have to have short overhangs...

Yet another London female cyclist dies

That's the reality of these modern trucks, that zone is completely blind. Even if the driver stops, gets out and looks, he then has to get back in and is once again blind to that area and anything entering it. How can something unavoidable be criminally stupid? .

Changing the size of the motor gear does what on a Panasonic Mid Motor?

Yes, that's reasonable, as Kenny says up to 14 teeth can be ok if the cadence suits. .

    Benelli rapida s

The pedelec law in both Italy and the UK is basically the same, both now conforming to EU regulations. Of course 350 watts means it's not an EU legal pedelec, but since it's unplated you can pass it off as being 250 watts. The law since 6th April 2015 says it does require plating, but there is...

Changing the size of the motor gear does what on a Panasonic Mid Motor?

No, in fact a larger motor sprocket brings some advantages, less wear and much less likelihood of the chain jumping the teeth than with the standard 9 tooth one. An 11 tooth is a good step up, not going too far. Bear in mind that if your present transmission has some wear, the new sprocket and...

    Lithium Battery Woes

Well we'll see what happens when the replacement batteries are fitted. With lithium batteries getting it wrong first time seems to be the norm. With e-bikes it took two replacement generations to get them satisfactory. Similarly with cars, in trying to get in early, Mitsubishi despite GM's...

Changing the size of the motor gear does what on a Panasonic Mid Motor?

Yes, your 2012 model is slightly changed in cadence from the original. If you increase the motor sprocket size it will increase the cadence and power assisted road speed. To avoid the road speed increase just increase the size of the rear hub sprocket(s), which retains the increased cadence. .

    Lithium Battery Woes

They aren't sluggish normally since the primary electric system is adequate. It's only when on the generator engine alone that they are sluggish with acceleration. .

    Lithium Battery Woes

It would still surprise me if Siemens have undercalculated that, given their experience in this field. I think the statement blaming the batteries is the most likely answer, it's consistent with lithium introduction experiences elsewhere, taking two or more goes to get it right in each vehicle...

    Lithium Battery Woes

I'm in a modern tram area so we are used to coping with the tramlines. Switzerland were first in with buses that recharged at stops, and they also pioneered a flywheel powered bus, the flywheel spun up to speed at each stop. .

    Lithium Battery Woes

Wouldn't be a bad idea, though I think today's trams probably better. They'd both solve London's chronic particulate pollution problem. .

    Lithium Battery Woes

Possibly, though they have said the fault is with the batteries. With Siemens involved in the design of the electrical system, I somehow doubt they'd have underrated, given their long e-transit experience. Also there should be plenty of stationary charge time, given the frequency of stopping...

    Lithium Battery Woes

While most of our e-bike lithium battery troubles seem to have ended, these batteries continue to cause problems elsewhere, from fires on Boeing 787s to ever diminishing life promises in electric cars. Now we learn that London's hybrid routemaster bus batteries are all failing, with over a...

Question re what conversion kit will allow slow-pedalling/give knees a rest

In a more constructive vein Jonathan, it might help know there have been previous attempts at easement of the pedelec regulations and the problems met. A major one is the active opposition by bodies representing the motorcycle and moped industries who fear inroads into their trade, and they...

    Operation Manual?

Although most come with a manual, the quality and scope of information in them often leaves much to be desired, so you may not be missing too much. One manual I got with a new e-bike said I should not ride it in the rain! What sort of advice is that for a bike exported into England! Your...
