    7th London Cyclist Death Today

Yes, those speakers are a blessing in this circumstance, and many London trucks have had them added. It's all too easy for a cyclist not to see the front indicator just above, and for the trucker not to be able to see the cyclist in that spot. The snag even with the speakers though is the...

    7th London Cyclist Death Today

Here's two extracts from a government report on cyclist accidents which have some relevance: Adults aged 30–49 years Reported KSIs have increased sharply for the 30–49 year age group since the year 2000. The 30-49 year age group were injured predominately on roads in urban areas, on week days...

The trouble with that is the use of KSI, killed and seriously injured. It not only hugely inflates the figures, the assessment of what is a "serious" injury is unreliable. I only use killed figures since that gives unarguable comparisons and is the most reliable assessment. And as you say...

    7th London Cyclist Death Today

Yes of course, I'd forgotten that far back and as said, I've never paid one. Trips into or across the central region were either by e-bike or motorbike, though before the charge I quite often crossed the centre by car. So I suppose the charge worked as intended for me, not that my infrequent...

Here's a photo of a bike frame and unit upside down, the three bolt holes arrowed. Tighten those three bolts, they have to be very tight. This is with the Panasonic unit, but there will be similar bolts for the Impulse units:

Thanks for the update Steve, I've never had to pay it so not up to date on how much. It didn't take long to creep up twice from the original £8. I suppose this last £1.50 increase was to compenasate for Boris removing the western extension income for his buddies in the area. .

No, there is no variable, year by year virtually every death has been of commuters. Indeed almost the whole growth of London cycling has been in commuting, due to the £10 a day car congestion charge and expense of overcrowded public transport. I'm sorry the search facility doesn't work well...

    Pedelecs 10,000+ members

Thanks shemozzle999, it was a little while since I last searched for one. Still not solely Dutch though, it's Benelux for The Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg. Despite all their excellent bike shops, I'm surprised that The Netherlands hasn't had a forum of their own, given the Dutch buy...

No, from what I posted I deduce that the presence of the support of local knowledgeable e-bike capable dealers everywhere there makes a forum far less necessary. It's the lack of that in most parts of the UK that makes a forum more necessary and membership desirable. . .

And the Netherlands has proportionally the largest e-bike market of all with over 1 in 8 of all bike sold being pedelecs, but as far as I am aware has no e-bike forum. .

    Help needed

Stay with 24 volts, these side mounted Electrodrive motors from at least two makers were not the most reliable during some periods. Also I don't know if their internal controller can take 36 volts. It shouldn't be a big disadvantage, they were always good performers and around the best of 24...

And even Schwalbe acknowledge that, stating that for more grip their Energiser range is better, albeit with sightly less penetration resistance, their underlayer 3mm rather than the 5mm of MPs. Despite that, even the Energiser isn't the best for grip either, once again optimised for long life...

    7th London Cyclist Death Today

Following a commuting death yesterday, another one today, bringing the total to seven so far this year. All seven deaths have been in collisions with HGVs, but before we get the usual hysteria about trucks, it's far from being the only important factor. Arguably the most important factor is...

    Get orff moi land

I think this was inevitable, the original route past Buckingham Palace and though the royal park was always going to cause many problems, given the tourist burden, many ceremonies and frequency of special works for functions. Blocking it on the grounds of the needs of both locations makes the...

    New bike thread.

Congrats on your "new" bike Eddie. My brother was a roadie and in addition to his always current regular bike he had a treasured Peugeot road bike from the 1970s, a model based on one of their Tour de France winners. When a knee crippled with age and arthritis forced him to give up riding, he...

    BBC stirs trouble for cyclists

Probably true of the insurance industry, but not the government. Successive UK governments have rigidly opposed any measure that could conceivably lead to a decline in cycling. That even extended to firmly stamping out an attempt to introduce cycle helmet wearing law for the young, a measure...
