    New Kalkhoff owner.

It's a registration plate holder that applies in the UK and all of mainland Europe, since yours is an S class high speed e-bike, only legal in Germany and The Netherlands within Europe. In the UK it has to be type approved and registered as a motor vehicle to be legally used on the roads, and...

Poor air quality forecast for tomorrow - mitigated by riding an electric bike?

Often their own fault though. When driving I use the recycle button on my air-con to select when I'm taking in air from outside. Most drivers seem to leave it on intake all the time, even when their bonnet is right behind the diesel just in front, asking for trouble. It only needs to be on...

Help! Trying to repair Panasonic motor on Raliegh Dover

It's very unlikely you need to change the pedelec shaft bearings, I feel sure only the four supporting the motor and gear shafts could be causing this trouble. .

Help! Trying to repair Panasonic motor on Raliegh Dover

That is normal, the motors I've seen have had some areas of metal showing there. I think the thin plastic coating in parts probably isn't intentional, just a sign of some tolerance when the windings are moulded in. It seems it's only the nylon gear rear bearing that's defective, does it feel...

It may even be the same trailer Tony, since mine was brought in from France by a discounter. This link is to a post mentioning it. .

Help! Trying to repair Panasonic motor on Raliegh Dover

Indeed, Martin has given valuable help to get other Panasonic equipped bikes back onto the road. It could easily be that bearing behind the nylon gear wheel causing the noise, I've never known that before but there is always a first time. However the rear motor bearing won't necessarily have...

    Jeremy Clarkson Suspended

There's another way of expressing disapproval online though, that is by only giving likes to the rational posts. Look on the previous page 7 and there are plenty of likes for the rational and reasonable posts, but almost no support for the homophobic and anti-semitic posts. Such support as...

Help! Trying to repair Panasonic motor on Raliegh Dover

Getting the motor off the crankcase side is often very difficult, I've always managed by using the sharp edge of a screwdriver or chisel to insert between the two with light tapping. This webpage link gives how to change the bearings, it's usually the small outboard one that goes, due to it...

UK to Harmonise Electric Bike Law with Europe?

The 1000 watts rating bars it as a pedelec, but it can be type approved as a Low Powered Moped in the L1e-A class if assist speed limited to 15.6 mph. The weight doesn't matter since they fall into two approval brackets, under or over 35 kilos. Then no registration or insurance would be...

    Researching for leccie bike

Pending Wightrider answering, I ran the original 1.95" and 2.25" Kendas on two e-bikes for around a year before fitting my usual MPs. I didn't get a single puncture in either of them in that time, respectively one a 700c and the other a 20" wheel bike. During that time I did get some punctures...

    Jeremy Clarkson Suspended

Announced today by the BBC that Jeremy Clarkson will appear as a host on the satirical programme "Have I Got News For You". A spokesman said that although Clarkson's Top Gear contract had been cancelled, that was not a ban on appearing on BBC TV. I imagine that Paul Merton and Ian Hislop will...

UK to Harmonise Electric Bike Law with Europe?

For existing e-bikes made before 1st April 2015 the plate is not required. For kit bikes following that date, i.e. when a motor is added to an unpowered bike, the position is unclear since no provision has been made for them. One assumes the Vehicle Inspectorate when testing for single vehicle...

UK to Harmonise Electric Bike Law with Europe?

Thanks Shemozzle999, odd that the new plating requirement comes in so quickly without any allowance for manufacturers to adjust. Even more troubling is the position for existing retail stock. Normally at least six months notice is given for retailers to clear stock, so some clarification is...

How (not) to encourage children to cycle

The Japanese have a similar law Tony, pavements should be used for cycling in most instances. It seems it depends on which side of the world one is! .

    Keeping up with a roadie

Yes, they've changed the Kalkhoffs now, as they did slightly on the earlier Pro Connect that I remarked on. Some makers have increasingly been more liberal in the way they interpret both power and assist speed limits, but that's far from universal. Plenty still use the lower powered motors and...

Stealth bomber arrived this week with a 5400w motor

Now £100 for a one year permit, or a sliding scale of charges for shorter periods starting at £1 per day. Westminster's reason for introducing the charges was not financial but a way of rationing demand due to the lack of spaces that both you and cwah mention .
