Hello, and I live in the us of a!

The Yamaha PAS e-bikes have been discontinued for over 8 years and have no spares or new batteries available now, so it's worth very little. They didn't sell too well in Britain and were discontinued here much earlier, in Europe it was only in France that they did sell ok to the end of...

caught for speeding with radar gun

Hi NRG, good to see you post again, it's been a long, long time! I'm well thanks but don't spend as much time in the forum these days and make many less posts than my former 10 to 12 a day. Other interests and having a bit of a break the reasons. .

The Complete EU Regulations on all e-bike types

Can't see anything wrong in being helmetless, the majority ride that way in the major cycling countries of Northern Europe. Recommending helmet wearing for cycling tends to be a very British thing, nanny state and all that, but even in Britain only 27% wear helmets according to government...

The Complete EU Regulations on all e-bike types

The snag was on an earlier page that led to it Wicky, sorry about that. I've amended my first post and hope it will be ok now by going through a couple of steps. If not, please let me know. .

The Complete EU Regulations on all e-bike types

Bike Europe have published a PDF whitepaper containing all the EU regulations on e-bikes, pedelecs and speed pedelecs. Although for subscribers, I think you may be able to download it through following the steps from the foot of the introduction from this link P.S. It seems not unless you...

Raleigh joins the de-restricted e-bike debate (at last).

Fair comment Eddie, but they didn't exactly rush to make this statement, considering how long these dongles etc have been out and in use. My guess is that Bosch have only finally acted becauses the whole issue has become such blatant and widespread law breaking, using their product. .

caught for speeding with radar gun

He could have been fined for a cycling offence, reckless riding for example, but not expressly for speeding since that law does not apply to bicycles being part of the motor vehicle law. But of course the speed measure could be used as evidence of recklessness. Conversely in that instance he...

caught for speeding with radar gun

Adding to Rusky's comment that UK speed limits are only applicable to motor vehicles, nothing you have posted above is true. The Highway Code is not law, it's guidance. It can be used by a court of law for guidance, but cannot be used as mandatory. Nor can the police seize a bike in lieu of a...

    Crank drive info please

You'd probably cook it Steve, the earlier Panasonic unit that was in the Lafree did have some electronic frailty, suffering a variety of faults on a small number of them. Designed for 24 volt NiMh with just over 29 volts fully charged, an over 50% increase to touching 42 volts fully charged...

:D Possibly. Or maybe everything will be Chrome browser style and online, no static OS at all. .

    Tyre pressure gauges

True if things were as now, but if the avatars are running the internet and given their vitually infinite function capacity, the internet can be policed 100% effectively against all such abuse. The world I've outlined will be so different that all today's thought processes on how things run...

    Tyre pressure gauges

Not for ever though. It's reckoned that between 20 and 50 years from now we will be able to have an equivalent personality avatar online which will live for ever interacting with others just as we do now. That will make the search for physical life extension pointless, since the avatar's life...

    Real mudguard?

I'm sure they will fit ok too, there's plenty of adjustment at the stay-to-mudguard attachment points. .

    Real mudguard?

When needing a pair I found some in the local Halfords, which even better were in a reduced price bin costing very little. Otherwise any bike shop should be able to get a set for your small wheels, which are 20" I guess, a popular wheel size. Unfortunately not many offer proper full 20" ones...

    "Last mile" transport project

That's good Kirstin, in that case I can't see any problems with your original plans. As long as you ensure the accuracy of alignment of the front and rear wheels to give best stability on such a low and short base it should be fine. If you are hinging the two parts it might be a good idea to...

    "Last mile" transport project

An aside from the tech aspect. Is there any risk of being stopped on that route? I ask because there has been a test case and clear ruling that those "pavement" scooters are always illegal on the basis that they have no working pedals. .

    Torque claims.

Could well be John, once they stray from the factual it's all guesswork. Although it might seem likely that they have similar actual torque, now the Impulse has it's transmission protection measure it could well be that they've stepped up it's torque and power to gain a market advantage. Bosch...

    Torque claims.

The way i read it Trex said the Woosh maximum was 70Nm but 45Nm at 70rpm for the CD motor. We could probably assume something similar for the Impulse, I think 35Nm would be much too low for those units, judging by ability. .

    Torque claims.

Judging from real world ability, I think those makers quote the optimum crossover figure at the unit's output shaft, i.e. the crank, so an honest figure. From that we can derive the actual torque at the rear wheel in each gear available. As Trex says though, not publishing a maximum power...
