Removing wires from controller - cut?

I dont see why not. The coating is normally there to protect against moisture, so if you solder through it to remove wires, you ought to replace it with something similar. Myself I do have a bottle of conformal coating handy. Take pictures, just in case you pull the wrong wire.

Removing wires from controller - cut?

Well in theory, you can. The controller on the board does not know the wire is there unless there is some fancy wiring\shorts in the connectors themselves. I would use heat shrink with a glue lining, the last thing you want to happen is the heat shrink to come off and a short occur. I was...

And to cut costs they will sell them on a sheet that also has the 250W motor stickers. I wonder if you can get fireproof stickers ?

    Tyre rotation direction

Schwalbe says; https://www.schwalbe.com/en/profil Why are so many treads direction dependant? In the case of a road tire the rolling direction is mainly important for aesthetic considerations. Tires marked with arrows simply look more dynamic.. Off road, the rolling...

Do you leave your display attached to your ebike, when leaving it locked in a public place?

I dont often leave my MTB eBike locked in public unattended. However some time back I did swap the LCD3 type display which is pretty much a 'please steal me' advert for the much smaller LCD4, whcich does not look so obvious. The only thing I miss from the larger, much more obvious, LCD3...

To me, it seems inevitable, that if there continues to be incidents with eBike fires, then the 'something must' be done approach, of a Government seeking to attract votes, will act and introduce legislation.

    Legal Pitfalls

Sad, but I cannot say I am surprised. Without specific legislation, the seller of the eBike seems to have no legal obligation to inform the purchaser of the legalities of the product being sold. A responsible UK government would mandate that sellers, of eBikes not legal on the roads, are...

Would you have the regulations that relate to safety on most electircal appliances you buy abandoned and leave it to device manufacturers to decide ?

Local UK supplier versus cheapo far East, clearly most would assume the risk would be less from a repuatable UK supplier. The significant issue however, is there seems to be little to no regulations on construction and sale of eBike batteries. Given the potential harm that could occur if they...

Chargers that do that functionality, capacity check, cycling etc, have been around for a long time. They typically only do one 'battery' at a time, but that can be up to 12 series Lithium Polymer, ION, LiFePO4 and well as strings of NiCd, NiMh and lead acid too...

BTDTGTTS. Yes, but those 'chargers' were for Alkaline batteries, which whilst not designed for charging, maybe could be a couple of times. And no known fire risk if 3 or 4 of them were used in a radio or clock.

So despite, I presume, the enormous amount of experts time that went into developing, manufacturing and testing those batteries, still they went wrong. Such is the joy of Lithium batteries. Do beginner DIYers stand a better chance ?

Especially when considering the potential consequencews for fires in bloack of flats. Do you ban your clients from storing eBikes or thier batteries in the properties you rent ?

Very unlikely, you get what you pay for. I was looking at batteries recently for a conversion. I can have a UK build 36V 7Ahr battery for £300. I can buy a 36V 10Ahr from the far east for £115. I know which one I am going to buy.

A diy conversion in itself, is low risk. Sure you can get stuff wrong, but that can happen in routine (non-electric) cycle maintenace, and thats been acceptable for many decades. I do agree with the sentiment, but the risk\danger is not in the conversion process itself but in the batteries.
