    Forthcoming EU Red Tape Bonfire

So 2000 suggestions and only 9 selected. Sounds more like a damp squib than a bonfire, to be expected I guess.

    Which colour wire

Checking the polarity of the charger output with a multimeter would be a good idea. One might assume the charger puts +Ve on the brown, but then we dont know which charger you have or where it came from.

How to measure bike chain (Cyclamatic Power Plus)

No, I said; "Your picture shows one full link in the middle of the red box. And half of a link on the left and half of a link on the right." So within the red box, in chain length terms, you have one full link and two half links = 2 links

How to measure bike chain (Cyclamatic Power Plus)

Look at the chain between the edges of the red lines you added in the picture. Your picture shows one full link in the middle of the red box. And half of a link on the left and half of a link on the right.

Help! Folding E-Bike (London Narrowboat commuting)

I have used one for going round the shops. OK on quiet roads, but useless on hills. Has the advantage of low maintenance though.

Help! Folding E-Bike (London Narrowboat commuting)

And even more so if it was a eBiked Titanium Brompton 'from £3970' before the conversion of course. https://www.brompton.com/t-line?gclid=EAIaIQobChMInLeU18v69wIVGKd3Ch2tPQg6EAAYASAAEgKpFvD_BwE One can but dream ...............

Help! Folding E-Bike (London Narrowboat commuting)

That could be a tricky one. Although if there was a warranty issue, its not a big job to remove the electric add on. I have contemplated what I would do if say my Brompton was stolen. I would definetly replace it, probably with a second hand one and convert that to electric.

Help! Folding E-Bike (London Narrowboat commuting)

As a long term Bromton user, 20 years or so, I could not agree more. I cannot recall any particular faults over that period, apart from punctures, but the Schwalbe Marathons mostly solve that problem. The chain ring was worn after 18 years or so, but that about the only 'fault' I can recall...

    Lighting wiring

In general lights\torches and similar do not use fuses. Capacitors, if needed, would normally be integral to the device itself. Difficult to comment further, without seeing links or pictures for the light and battery you are trying to use. Why have the light seperate from the main eBike...

E-scooters 'are five times safer than bikes' - Study by The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents

Them in ivory towers will expect to get the Qdos of legalising eScooters, but under a set of legalistive requirements that they 'know' large numbers of the UK public will not follow.

E-scooters 'are five times safer than bikes' - Study by The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents

I suspect the the legistlators, driven\controlled by the politicians, dont understand the mess at all.

    Brakes.

But brakes for downhill, off road and the like are reall different requirement than for road use; "The problems with most mechanical systems is theyre maintenance hungry, prone to power drop off, and really really unsuitable for anything other than a gentle bimble along the roads at 10mph." I...

    Brakes.

Back in the late 70s and 80s, I used to bimble along on the roads at 20mph+, indeed on one ocaision was stopped by the Police, to be fair I was going over 30mph in a built up area. But speed limits did not apply. The side pull brakes on my 27" wheeled road bike were definetly capable of...

E-scooters 'are five times safer than bikes' - Study by The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents

Completly daft really. I will assume that a eBike is a good deal safer on the road than a eScooter. My eBike can cope with the moonscape roads we have these days, but an eScooter ? So if you are for whatever reason not able or want to exert the effort of using pedals, you would have to use...

    Newbie

A mine field indeed. eBike stuff will fail and given the cost of the things you might expect that spares will be available 5 or 10 years down the line. One issue that concerns me about the current 'eBike' market is that for some retailer bought eBikes there can be problems in the future with...

2 and 4 stroke motor conversion kits

Why is it a subject of concern ? Are there many of them still about ? Last time I saw one on the road was maybe 10 or more years ago.

If you were going to buy a bike to convert....

Might not have been 'around' by you, but QRs were released by Campagnolo back in the 30s. I think I still have a set of Campagnolo small flange QR wheels, 27" of course, from the mid 70s somewhere ....... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quick_release_skewer

    Folding bike or full size

As an owner of a Brompton, which I did buy origionally and used extensivly for commuting, I would agree with @flecc. The Brompton, now converted to electric, is an ideal commuting bike if you have a mixed public transport and cycle commute, or nowhere to store a bike at work. However I also...
