    Advice about an E-Bike

Very definetly it can help. There are hills like that round by me, and on max assist a 1:7 is a great deal less effort thanwithout the motor.

New e bikes with small ah batteries

The distance achieved depends on terain and the amount of assist you are using. The LCD display does show how many Watts the system is using. My own 36V 11ahr setup contibutes circa 85W at assist level 1 and 520W on assist level 5. So if the battery is 36V x 11Ahr there is 396WattHr of power...

High power illegal ebikes getting crushed in the West Midlands

There is one by me, they do good work. Take in donated bikes and bits, rebuild\repair them into saleable bikes, profits to charity. You can get some bargain bikes from them, good as new really.

High power illegal ebikes getting crushed in the West Midlands

Accepting that PC Plod is unlikely to have the time to do stop and searches on potentially illegal eBikes, perhaps Councils could be funded to have 'eBike Wardens' to do the job, in a similar way to Councils that have the powers to enforce parking and do tow aways etc. Then, whilst obviously...

A quick question about the 15.5mph assisted legal limit

A 'universally' adopted standard does make sense, to me at least. If it is so you can expect it to be easier (cheaper?) for UK eBike manufacturers to import parts that would be compatible for UK use. Same applies to those doing DIY eBike conversions. The power limits do intially seem a bit...

A quick question about the 15.5mph assisted legal limit

To avoid confusion just cycle your eBike at no more than 15.5mph...........

A quick question about the 15.5mph assisted legal limit

The same would apply to a car. How would a Policeman be able to determine its legality ? Very unlikley that they could, in detail, so it would go to 'experts' for checking. The likley scenario is that the rider\driver has to do something worthy of a stop, speeding for instance, and a Policeman...

A quick question about the 15.5mph assisted legal limit

The situation is a bit like the enforcement of vehicle speed limits of vehicles using cameras. The ACPO 'guidance' for enforcement is speed limit + 10% + 2mph. But the speed limit remains as the legal limit.

A quick question about the 15.5mph assisted legal limit

Is that a tolerance where they are saying you are not likely to be prosecuted unless you exceeed it, or does the law explicitly say 15.5mph + 10% ?

    Tarred with the same brush

One might speculate that a eBike battery, with big wheels, air tyres and in some cases suspension would have a reduced risk of vibration damage to the battery.

    JST/SM versus HiGo/Julet Connectors - Wiring Differences

Well you can work out the pins versus colours, you just need a plug or socket with bare wires at the other end, you can buy the Julet cables like this. Could you damage stuff if you get it wrong ? Displays and the like might have reverse polarity protection but I would not bet on it. One the...

E-scooters 'are five times safer than bikes' - Study by The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents

I suspect the scooter hire company 'sponsoring' this report would have known that publishing injury figures for per person mile travelled, would not have put eScooters in such a good light. In particular I strongly suspect that choosing to do a journey by bus is very much safer than doing the...

E-scooters 'are five times safer than bikes' - Study by The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents

What they have done is use the figures for the number of vehicle crashes. Its maybe possible that the crash rate per million vehicle miles is 1.52 for a bus and 0.66 for an eScooter. But buses normally have more that 1 passenger. Busses may well be used for much longer longer journeys too...

E-scooters 'are five times safer than bikes' - Study by The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents

And whilst that sounds extreme, some may recall that Boris (allegadly) resisted introducing covid lockdowns as "Covid only kills over-80s" Personally, if people choose to ride the things on the road and accept the risks then let them get on with it. What could easily turn into a catastrophy...

E-scooters 'are five times safer than bikes' - Study by The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents

Well exactly. I dont recall seeing anyone suggesting that helmets be worn in busses. Which is odd really, if there is such an (alleged) elevated risk of travelling in a bus.

    Disc brake issues

I have a pair of the original M4s on my MB, they are good. They were bought almost 20 years ago, I I thought they would need to be scraped as they were all locked up when I recently did a eBike conversion. However, Hope will still service them, and they are now as good as new.

E-scooters 'are five times safer than bikes' - Study by The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents

So if I want to reduce the risk of a 'crash' I should avoid the bus, which is free for me and I had assumed was safe enough, and travel by eScooter instead.
