Technical question.....my wife commutes on her electric bike and the vast majority is 6 miles off road up a long hill to get home...
The bafang 36v 250w motor is said by some to be strong enough to run at 48v quite reliably.....
Would it be possible to connect a 12v pack in series with the existing battery (10Ah) for off road use? The controller is already uprated to infineon 20A restricted to 16A.
I emailed ping battery (eBay) and said that it was ok to do this but:
"We recommend you add diodes in the circuit to protect the BMS. Attach a diagram for your reference."
The main question is.....can I wire this up without opening the battery case? I would prefer to just wire the external pack in series to the wires going from the case to the controller.
Could I just place a diode accross the positive and negative wires exiting the existing battery case or should I be opening it up to find the BMS and wiring before the key switch?
My intention would then to be to wire an off-road button via a relay to connect/disconnect the external pack...
I hope this makes sense!
