Advice for sprocket replacement on an old Yamaha Easy / Yamaha X99-E?

Hi there,

I have been gifted a Yamaha X99-E, battery (with charger) and manuals included. It's in very good condition, it's hardly been used at all the past 15 or so years. It's a fun bike, and the battery holds enough of a charge for me to cycle to school comfortably, but I find its speed to be somewhat lacking. I'm aware this is by design, yet I would love for it to go just a bit faster.

I've followed the adventures of another user of this forum (specifically, Beach Thorncombe - thank you!) concerning the same bike, and through that threat amongst others have learned that a simple way to get a bit more speed out of the power assist system might be to change the rear sprocket. I'm curious if anyone has advice for me on how to tackle this, and potentially what sprocket to get. My partner, who has a bit more experience on bikes and bike components than me, says that it's probably a tedious job. He suggested I look for a different rear wheel with hub gear included and a smaller sprocket.

Am I better of bringing the bike to a shop? I'm a poor student, so I don't have much to spend.

Any thoughts on the matter are much appreciated!
