We are thinking about upgrading our Upland electric bikes to one of the following makes a Alien Special or Powercycle Salisbury as we have a budget of around £1,000 for two bikes.

Or the other option is to convert our normal bikes with one of the Alien kits which will cost around £800 for the two bikes.

We wish to use the bikes as a one or twice a week and also carry them on our bike rack mounted on our motorhome twice a year.

Any info or experience in the two makes or conversion kits would be appreciated :)

As I've both, I would recommend the Alien Kit or bike over the Salisbury, far more powerful, a chance to have 3 cogs at the front giving better gearing, the Salisbury is geared all wrong, bottom gear is not low enough and top gear is not high enough, plus my Salisbury keeps forgetting it's electric. The one thing the Salisbury has got is it's near silent.

I've now put my Alien kit on a Dirty Bikes Hard Ass from ebay for £170, and it looks the dogs danglies! (It was on a Land Rover Kartago)

If you buy the Alien kits do specifically ask for the Brushless version though.

how fast do these alien kits go, does the kit come with battery controller etc?
They come with everything you need to be up and running in a couple of hours, Wheel (with tyre) & Hub Motor, Brake levers with cutouts, Thumb throttle, Battery Meter, Rack, Battery, Charger, Controller with pouch and keys. You'll need some patience, some cable ties and depending on the bike, some thought on fitting the rack.

There is a pot you can adjust to vary the speed on a lead from the controller, more speed, less range etc. With me aboard and Panniers on the flat I would get to about 18-19, I'm 100Kg, plus 8Kg for the kit plus 5Kg for panniers on a 15Kg bike!
