I'm sure this must have been talked about before, but I searched for a while and couldn't find anything useful...

I have just ordered my 24v 30 AH LiFePo4 from Ping, and am looking for an aluminium box that I can put it (and the controller) in - since the battery cost nearly £400, I don't really want to leave it in a bag, and at 7.5kg it's a bit heavy to carry around, so I would like to lock it in something mounted to the bike-rack.

If anyone has useful ideas/experience (or could point me at previous post) I would be grateful.

The dimensions of the battery are 300x105x150mm and the controller is fairly small (hasn't arrived yet).

Many Thanks

I think you would want to make the battery removable even if its heavy...so I'd be tempted to mount the controller in a seat post bag and place the battery in a small plastic tool or fishing tackle box strapped to the rack...if you mount the controller with the battery you won't be able to remove the battery easily...

Thanks for your reply
I spose the ideal solution is a metal box with a handle i can lock onto the rack - then when I need to remove it I can. Take your point about fixing the controller seperately.

Here is the method I have used on my road bike.

The controller is in a small wedge sadle bag and the battery is housed in a bar bag held on to the seatpost with klickfix fittings.

Picture of the Ping battery in the bar bag.

I found it was best to have the controller attached to the bike rather than in the battery bag. Less wires to unplug if you remove the battery.

Best of luck with the Cyclone build.

I have just looked at picture above of my rusty seat post.

I’m afraid the whole bike is no better.

My old road bike is in stealth mode - its supposed to look uninviting so nobody wants to steal it. A Rat Bike !

Herb,

I think your bike is more at risk of being blown up than stolen! A bike in that condition, with wires as shown in the photograph if left chained up might attract attention for not being 'normal' and could be interpreted as a disguised terrorist bomb!

Fair comment , I think I’ll get by bike out and go for a quick BLAST

With other cyclist it goes down a BOMB

With my speed I BLOW them away

Well it is MINE

hi i am new to the forums not so new to the electric bike scene i have had a400 watt front elecric moter one with sla batteries but this had 2 problems one the weight was far to much for my bike rack and broke very easly and of course the other problem was the power very slow

so at long last i have decided to upgrade to a nice cyclone 900 watt kit with a 36 v 30 amp ping battery this is 2 half pack weighing around 11 kilo so this is my question after spending so nearly 1800 on the moter and battery i would like to build a cheap afordable battery box and of course a rack or some way of mounting the battery box strait on to the bike if anyone has any ideas it would be a great help thanks
