Did my duty today, visiting the parents, decided to do first pleasure trip on the e-bike.

Live at Yatton, travelled to Street, 27 miles there, 29 back.

We have a cycle track called the Strawberry Way which runs from Yatton to Cheddar, very convenient.

Street 1.jpg

This is where Thatchers cider comes from:

Street 2.jpg

Street 3.jpg

The tunnel near Winscombe, just has illuminated cats eyes, so a bit dodgy if people coming the other way.

Street 4.jpg

Axbridge.

Street 5.jpg

Cheddar reservoir where I used to sail before the dreaded bad back.

Street 6.jpg

The cafe near Westhay where I sheltered when the heavens opened (photo was taken on the way back).

Street 9.jpg

What passes for modern farm equipment in this neck of the woods.

Street 8.jpg

A view near Shapwick nature reserve with Tor Hill of Glastonbury on the horizon.

Street 7.jpg

A lovely ride, bike went great.

cheers,

Alan

ps sorry, don't think I attached the piucture right, but hopefully OK

I bought a powabyke euro last year, which made me smile from ear to ear the first time I rode it. I have just bought an Alien Aurora and it has changed my life. Wow what a bike, the extra hill climbing ability, I have a 12% hill to climb when I go out and the Alien has freed me to go where (no man has gone before) well not me, to me no bike is the best it's just what suits you.

Thanks for sharing this, I like to see what other people are doing with their bikes and it also goes to show that electric bikes are for fun and not just for old codgers to go to the corner shop and get their milk.

Can you tell me if you used the battery all the way and what sort of settings did you use? Did it do the entire trip on one charge?

Rain - yes had some of that, fortunately the cafe came in sight just as it started to hammer down, so spent half an hour there.

Solo dinghy - had one up until 8 months ago, but a slipped disk has ended that hobby. A great shame, it's a lovely way to spend your leisure time, not disimiliar from cycling in many ways.

Charging and settings - I took the charger with me so gave the battery a top up, but it was showing 4 bars and of 5 at Street so might well have made it (the route had a lot of flat work). On the road I usually use the top setting and travel at 15.5mph+, and on the busy cycle paths put it back to 3 or 4 so I'm not rushing past pedestrians, dogs, and other bikes to fast.

Great pics and post

Did you partake in a glass of Thatchers? I holiday'd in Somerset earlier in the year and discovered Old Rascal!

Hi Lynda,

I've posted a link to The Strawbery Line

Hardly any road work.

For those who don't know, the railway line was closed in 1965, and was called the Strawberry Line because it was used for transporting strawberries from Cheddar.

If you want any more details just let me know.

cheers,
Alan

Hi Alan, Thanks for the link, I already have a leaflet on it.
I had been looking for a campsite somewhere around the middle of the trail, but now cant seem to find the one I thought I had earmarked, which I am sure had nearly direct access onto the trail.
So if you saw any small sites near the trail could you let me know ?

Although its not too far from where I live,Ilminster, its too far for my battery to cycle up then do the trail and return in one day......plus to be honest, I would be exhausted :)

Oak Farm Touring Park, Congresbury - within 100 yards.

Broadway House, Cheddar - within 400 yards.

Don't think there's anything midway.

How about the challenge of going up Cheddar Gorge ! That would be a good test, think I'll have a go at it next week !

cheers,
Alan
