Hi

I wish to fot 2 batteries to my etrike but not at the same time 1 is a backup 1 is 36 volt 10 amp the other is 36 volt 24 amp wouls i need a switch between themand what type is recommended

Keep it simple and ensure both of the battery discharge wiring have the same connector on them and can reach the controller connection , simply use one at a time so disconnect one and connect the other.
No need for any switches .

Neal's suggestion is the cheapest and works very well. Another solution is one of these, which allows you to keep both batteries connected. That has the slight advantage of a bit more power and the batteries get an easier time, so live a bit longer.

It's a double ideal diode arrangement so no power can flow from one battery to the other. It creates one-way gates. The danger of using two batteries is that if one is a higher voltage than the other, as soon as you connect them the charge will rush from the higher one to the lower with huge current, which is dangerous.

If wanting to use two batteries the simple answer is to charge them both to the same voltage or within 0.2v and simply run them in parallel, there will be no issue with equalisation . This what I often did.
