Hi, I have posted a couple posts on Pedelecs forum, a few years ago, but I don't think I posted posted an introduction, sorry.
After more than 50 years of regular cycling, and at the age of 62, I was not enjoying cycling as much, finding the hills much harder. I bought a Kalkhoff Agattu Impulse . I found it very reliable, and kept it for 7.5 years covering about 10,000 miles. I had very little trouble overall. I replaced the rear sprocket ( twisted), the chainguard (flimsy plastic mounting bracket broke), the replacement also later broke which I repaired with steel brackets, replaced the tyres once, chain twice, gear cable once, rear light, brake blocks once, two rear wheel spokes, and that's about it. The motor was fine. I found the bike, XL size, comfortable, substantially built, had good assistance from the motor, and suitable for a taller ( 6' 3") rider. I had good use from the bike and it was good value overall. I sold it on e bay very quickly, after buying it's replacement.
In September 2020, now 70 yrs, I bought a Cube Kathmandu Hybrid Pro 625, XL size. It has disc brakes, 10 speed derailleur gears, and a max torque Bosch motor of 85 nm compared to the 50nm of the Kalkhoff. The Cube is an excellent bike, looks substantially built, with a terrific motor, and can power up the steepest of hills with a heavy (me) rider.
I also sold my very little used unassisted Giant Roam 2 bike last year, as I found it very hard work after using an e bike for several years. My unassisted cycling is now behind me. I have really enjoyed the Kalkhoff, and will enjoy the Cube for years to come. These e bikes have extended my cycling years, and had I not gone electric, I would probably have stopped cycling, and lost the enjoyment and exercise I have always had from cycling.
