Hello all and a bit of an introduction,I have cycled for over 40 years, sometimes for play, sometimes for work, always with a smile....well almost.
Had a serious accident while working with horses which stopped me cycling for a while. Neck and back are now in a bit of a state, but with a desire to improve mobility and freedom, I started cycling again September 08.
I had a Swissbike fitted with a Heinzmann motor by a great guy, Steve Punnchard, up on the North York Moors...is it ok to mention his outfit? Anyway, I attached a trailer for my daughter, and used it through the winter to the summer hols, to do the school run.

It has been fantastic..even sold my car, have to rely on my wife now if I can't fit all the shopping in the trailer!
Only hiccup was a bit of a fall on the ice last winter, which put me out of action; mainly as I broke the trailer hitch. As I will continue to tow the trailer/and or trailer bike for a few years to come, I have just bought a cracking second hand Thorax sinus trike, which will hopefully be a bit more stable for me for the winter. I have also fitted a motor to this to help out when the body will not.

No problems with the ice or snow this year!

When my daughter is too big for the trailer , she will graduate to a Hase bike Trets, which will attach to the trike...she can pedal aswell.
Looking forward to seeing some of you at Presteigne, for my second visit.

The trike is a great solution for continuing the school run in difficult conditions.

I have been enjoying a front mounted childseat on the Kalkhoff Agattu with one or other of my two grandsons, but we don't ride in snow or ice.

Just started to play with a trailer, using the Weber Technik hitch. Although expensive, I am impressed with the quality.

It would be good to see more ebike/trailer solutions at Presteigne; both for children and cargo. A little bit of electric assistance is perfect when there is a load to be carried.

I speak as one at the very top end of the poorly supported 55-60 year old category in the age poll.

I loved the time I spent riding trikes (ICE Trice QNT and S models). It must be great with the assistance ! :) I imagine that the Heinzemann hub motor is a pretty good puller too. Did you re-use the unit from the folding mountain bike, or did you purchase a separate motor for your trike ? Thank you for sharing your experience !! Cheers, Dan

Hi Dan,

I had used the Heinzmann on the bike for approx 1000miles before refitting it to the trike. The refit was simple, I have left the digi twist grip on the swissbike and fitted a new one to the trike. Just had to remove an external cable cover plate from the hub to allow it to slot in. Had help and guidance from Steve at electricmountainbikes.com, and here is a pic of the positioning of the twist grip.

Just had to drop front changer down the left hand column a few inches, and luckily the brake on the rightside operates both front drums.
The trike has now done 650miles, and the assistance is great at junctions, hills etc. It is the high torque steel geared hub, built for power over speed.
