Flud is the one I will accidentally knock off his bike WHEN (not IF) I meet him out locally...that's not a hollow threat either,

...Roych Clough, Saturday, 10am if you want to be as brave as you are behind your pc...see you there if you're as strong as you make yourself out to be...I'd bring friends if I was in your shoes as you'll need someone to help you home...and that's my only post in this shitty thread:)
Steady, we are all friends really!

That motorbike you are sat on in your profile picture, whereabouts is the slot for the 10p coin? :)

The uk doesnt manufacture much
We don't manufacture remotely enough for our economic health.

From 1950 through to the 1980s I watched the decline, losing in turn bicycle manufacturing, then motorcycles, cars, trucks and buses, aircraft, shipbuilding. Now the only large scale manufacturing we do is for others, like the foreign car companies, and it's the large scale we need.

We do a lot of smaller scale and specialised manufacturing, but it doesn't add up to anything like enough. That also suffers the problem of reducing all the time as others get better at doing this smaller scale more sophisticated stuff for themselves.

To live alone in an environment unprotected by a larger body, we are going to have to get more competitive again, and that means working harder, initially at least for less reward. If we are not prepared to do that, we will fail.

good read.

"
May now has to come up with a deal that assuages the anger that was cynically stirred in pursuit of a Brexit vote, while the stirrers-in-chief want no responsibility for the nasty stuff. Liam Fox and Boris Johnson bicker over who should be in charge of jetset trade diplomacy, happy to sit in business class while someone else does the job of locking migrant nurses out of the NHS.
Meanwhile, the prime minister has to persuade EU leaders that her country is not turning its back on them; that it offers something in return for favourable exit terms. Yet nothing but the sound of doors slamming will persuade a large portion of the British electorate that true Brexit has been achieved."

Good. Ironic as well. When the benefits dry up permanently in a few months, try to think about the analogy.

I saw the word "Guardian" in the link and thought, why bother.

If by locking migrant nurses out of the NHS you mean ensuring that they at least have some grasp of the English language and are able to communicate with their colleagues and patients, then I agree, they should be locked out of the NHS. All that is being proposed is to be able to make some form of assessment of their language skills, something which under the EU does not exist at the moment. Typical Guardian BS.

I don't want Sodium chloride being confused with Sodium thiopental due to some language problem when I'm in hospital.

I see the latest tear jerker is the plight of unaccompanied / accompanied/ refugee / migrant / children / adults / who the fook knows in Calais. Bring them all here because our social services have bags of spare capacity and are massively overfunded. I wonder how long after landing on treasure island it will be before all the long lost relatives and extended family come out of the sand dunes? Of course, they will need to join said refugee / migrant/ child/ adult / who the fook knows.

agree, but we would have to reinvent ourselves as some kind of cutting edge research base (like california/silicon valley/Maasachesets Institute of technology). There's loads of very good research and development in the UK - but it benefits from EU membership. We'd be competing with everyone - including the EU - outside it, and IMHO that, in a world with China, Singapore, india etc isnt going to happen.

I agree Derf, which is why I said the independent alternative is to become more competitive in bulk manufacturing by accepting less reward for harder work.

The likelyhood of that happening is a different matter of course.

yes the "special relationship" has always been a one way street heap of BS for when america needs a fig leaf to invade a third world oil producer. But i cant help imagining that - when a majority of the UK electorate finally wakes up - it may be too late. I wouldnt be surprised if the EU treated the UK with considerable scepticism in te hfuture.

Buy British. Fly the flag.
Buy British is almost impossible these days, even if you think you are buying British it will in many cases have a large import content.
I always find the UK law strange in this respect,if it says Made in China,it must have been made in China.if it says made in UK,it must have been made in the UK but if it is unmarked you can make it anywhere, the country of origin is not a legal requirement.

No you have me wrong
I realise its changed thats not the point im making
My point is it shouldnt have changed until we actually leave
As at present we are still here paying our slab of money into the eu
Yet the pound has dropped thats what the reaction is we shouldnt have had
we are being penalised for potentially standing on are own two feet ,
If it had happened when all is finalised then thats a reaction we live with but for it too happen now is a knee jerk reaction as ive already said .

What if it all falls through and we dont leave , which to be honest i think will happen does the pound still stay low
How do all the countrys know its going to be better or worse whatever the outcome we are meant to be a great nation so why cant we stand on our own too feet .
I dont think it will 100% fall through,we will have compromises which will satisfy the leave vote but actually change little, but it will still be enough for the markets to think that we want to retrench into our own little island, cutoff from Europe and the rest of the world, henceforth we will be known as 'Little Britain' and maybe thats what a lot of leave voters wanted,to go back to Old Britain where we were inward looking and fagash Deidre does the cleaning instead of Natasha, hehe.
THe pound may have found a new base at 1.20 to 1.30 and will stick there whatever the Brexit outcome.
We still are a great trading nation but to sell something you need to buy the make-up products, dont forget soon we will have no steel industry so all steel will have to be imported, all aluminium already is imported.
I think Theresa May would love to exit this mess tomorrow and tell everybody it was an awful mistake but so soon would be political suicide, she is just looking for an escape route-maybe Boris and Davis will mess up to provide such a route.
I read that Brexit will cost this country £39billion in lost revenue, that would pretty much destroy the NHS,Hammond would be in real problems

The uk doesnt manufacture much where did you read that jem in a news paper
what an uneducated reply
this is the kind of rubbish being spouted off on this thread
and with this attitude and disbelieve in the country no wander it will end up going to hell
why dont you just roll over and have a good kicking while your down there.
Unfortunately UK manufacturing has suffered terribly from under investment. They interviewed a small business owner on the TV,somewhere near Birmingham, the machinery he was using was at least 50 years old, very inefficient. All my chinese sourced products are now manufactured on NC machines,3 and 5 axis ,fully line linked....that UK manufacturer just cannot compete,
There was a UK alloy wheel manufacturer in the Midlands...they cast the wheels in one factory, wheelbarrowed them to another shop and machined on individual machines for each op,the machinist passing from one to next.
My wheels are now manufactured in China on a pressure cast flow line, auto x-rayed for rejects and then machined in cabinet NC machines, multi axis,it takes 10 minutes to fully machine...they have 14 machining centres running 20 hours out of 24,these machines cost 2million euros each, the UK manufacturer was wasting his time, now ceased trading.
This is what we have to compete with on the world market,we must invest or accept others are more efficient.
KudosDave

The first post on page 200 of this thread.

I anticipate that the first post on page 300 will announce what a wonderful success BREXIT has been.
make that page 39706, after the third world war and the hundred year russian empire..
